This is not a truck hate thread. I'm just curious. Bonus points if you're European.

A friend needed a favor so I bought it off of them for $200. I had to spend several hundred more to make it roadworthy again, but now I have something to tool around town in and pick up curbside furniture.

East Euro here
Big engine with nice sound, less taxes, comfy to ride (lots of space), easy to wrench on. Can't care less what's under the wheels, can go offroad. Basically, with a truck you can go anywhere, even further than with a car. SUVs are taxed higher and you can't really haul dirty stuff in them like mountain bikes or recovery gear.

Was the cheapest automatic pickup in my country that wasn't an absolute wreck.

Wife and I share a business and she can't drive manual. So the last few work pickups and vans have been automatics.

Now we have a new pickup that isn't breaking down every other week I can get a manual shitbox that I am more comfortable driving.

Because the supercrew pickup is the improved family-truckster of yore. Quiet, comfortable and with plenty of room inside for traveling with the family. Having the bed with a flip up cover is bigger and more useful than the largest trunk you've ever seen on an old land yacht.
If you can only own 1 vehicle, it's hard to go wrong with a crew cab 1/2 ton.

if you cant enjoy an f150 supercrew 4x4 lariat then there's something wrong with you boy. Incredibly versatile and comfy vehicle.
But yeah if someone is a fully urban citiot with no garage then I can understand not wanting to deal with street parking, size of the vehicle, etc. and that makes some sense.
Fortunately we're free to buy as many different vehicles that suit our mood of the day.
Long live the pickup truck and cowboy cadillac.

Because I got them for $500 each from my job because the in house mechanic couldn't figure out that one had bad phasers and not rod knock (5.4 3v) and the other needed a fuel pump relay and not a pump (common issue that they melt) lmao. Lucky for me the owner is a hoarder otherwise they likely would have been scrapped or sold off years ago since they were sitting in the back of the lot for a literal decade (according to the registration history) before I came along.

On a lone saturday this was my schedule:

Woke up at 3 am and loaded CR250R into bed.
Drove out to Ocotillo Wells with friends and rode until afternoon.
Packed up and detoured up Mt. Laguna and packed snow around bike.
Stopped off at industrial complex in Santee and grabbed some pallets.
Parked at Law street in North Mission Beach (right at the cliff side above last fire ring).
Built snowman on beach next to bonfire while drinking beers with bros while the sun set into the pacific.

I went for a SUV on a heavy duty truck chassis because I car camp in the mountains a lot. My second choice would have been a pickup with a insulated canopy but that's a lot more work and it's hard to find a non clapped out pickup. I wanted more highway comfort and more off road capability and most importantly a V8. The 12mpg is worth it just for the sound and feel of the V8. Even getting groceries is enjoyable.

No, I race. I see cars through that lens. That's fun to me. Not driving truggs over little dirt mounds like I took my bmx to the vacant lot with the bike jumps. A pick up will only be a utility to me. A means to take my track vehicle to a track, with out one I have to keep it road legal.

I decided to live in the woods far away from the road system
The place I park my snowmachines, bikes, four wheelers, trailers, and building materials are somewhere on the road system a decent distance from where the trail/river begins.
My work also requires me to drive a few hours from the trailhead by road.

I have to transport my equipment, fuel, food, and friends from one place to the other and I do not want to tow a trailer if I don't have to. It is really shitty to have unpowered axles in deep snow or muddy roads, plus I need much more parking space.

Usually it is a vehicle, gas jugs, propane, chainsaws, food, clothing, etc. to carry, anything more and I have to pull a trailer.

I would like to drive a smaller and more fuel efficient vehicle but to do what I need I would have to pull a trailer everywhere, which would be worse than just driving a truck.

Where I live this is an extremely common situation so everyone drives a truck.

TL;DR I drive a truck 20% of the time so I can ride smaller vehicles the rest of the time.

Had to haul a horse trailer from time to time and also haul hay and other various farm cargo (water storage, mower/mini tractor, etc)
Ended up just really loving the thing and it's ended up being super useful in other situations as well like buying/moving furniture, getting a grill, driving on shitty or icy dirt/mud roads up into the mountains, etc

When traveling into canada I occasionally got a pickup at the rental counter.
Compared to the US your gas prices were always brutal though. I was putting it on expense account but respect for having to pay your own way and still choosing it.
They are great for a do-it-all family vehicle.

yea gas prices really vary across the country.

It's around the equivalent of 3.60USD/gal now. much lower than before/some taxes were just taken off gasoline.

our electricity is cheap though. 8 cents cdn overnight a kwh. 250miles in the mach e costs like 5-6 bucks lol

I wanted a vehicle with 4WD and decent ground clearance, for snow and going /out/. A midsize truck was a better deal and seemed more versatile and useful than any of the limited SUV options on the market these days. I didn't expect to use it as a truck that much but it's actually been a godsend, especially when helping my parents move and cleaning out their 40+ years of hoarded bullshit, this little Ranger probably hauled more tonnage to the dump in a few months than most (non-work) HD trucks will haul in their lifetimes.
