As in: you want a FI japanese sumo/DS and you can't find them so you are searching for betas as a second choice?

They are a niche italian mx/enduro brand, these "older" (mine is from 2011) motorcycles where made with suzuki dr350 carbed engines until the most recent version (beta alp 4.0 2024/ beta X. picrel is the new alp) where they got chinese liquid cooled engines to keep price down and pass emission laws.
mine (beta M4) was the sumo variant of the old alp 4.0, i got mine in italy and got it here near belgium by van in spring and gonna ride it down to italy for summer

>Unobtainium in Europe. I'd be willing to pay twice the US MSRP for one. We (used to) have the TW125 but it's not the same.
To be fair you can even find the vanvan/tw200 equivalent: the beta urban/alp 200 has aircooled 200cc engines and the big tire, just drive down to italy for a little vacation in a van and buy a used one for cheap on the way back!

I want to buy one of the triumph modern classic bikes. The best looking to me by far is the t120. Most of my riding will be on road, I'd say 90% or maybe even more, but I really want something that can handle some occasional off road stuff too, moreso than just basic dirt roads etc, but not quite as far as wading through knee high water and taking it off jumps and over logs etc. The obvious solution would be to pick the Scrambler 1200 xe, but to me it just looks a bit too lanky, like they put a t120 on stilts. It looks kinda silly to me, like a monster truck. The next obvious choice then would be the Scrambler 1200 x, but I feel like that's so far from the xe and so close to a t120 that it's almost not worth it, plus there are a lot of things that the t120 has going for it over the 1200 x like cruise control, heated grips, higher quality parts and better looking clocks. I'm wondering, if I put a sump guard and some more off-road oriented tires on a t120, would that basically make it almost as off-road capable as the scrambler 1200x, which is already a fairly substantial downgrade from the 1200 xe anyway? Or is it still pretty useless off road, and the 1200 x is significantly better? Thoughts?

I can't speak to Triumph's scramblers aside from how much that 1200 xe looks like a mirrored reflextion of the old beautiful tr6c. I would personally not ride a bike as nice looking as either of those triumphs on gravel/hard pack here without a skid plate, hand guards, and engine guards wide enough to keep everything but the bars off the rocks in a wipeout. And with 500lbs, you're really not going to want pick that bitch up often, so you're most likely going to baby it on the dirt anyway.

NTA, but I disagree with your take bro.

I understand the importance of not going cheap on tires, and I agree to an extent, but your perspective seems focused entirely on boy racing like a fag.

Me personally I commute daily and for that kind of use buying high end track-oriented tires isn’t just unnecessary, it’s a waste of money dude. They’ll never be used to their full potential and will wear out faster without offering any real benefit in my situation.

Paying extra for peak grip that won’t ever be needed isn’t good value. It’s not about cutting corners, it’s about using the right tool for the job.

A set of Pirelli Rossos costs more than a set of Road 6s and lasts less than half as long. You bet I’ll keep investing my money in the rubber that gives me the best value.

Amen.

was pretty impressed with the shinkos since they are primarily for the street, and it was a relatively technical ride, my first real trail ride that wasnt a mostly straight dirt road. dumbest part is after all the technical stuff i went down on a totally normal turn near the end of our ride. -.-

Thing about moto-america, is that new bikes/manufacturers get two years of no limits, after which their individual rules are tuned in the name of "competition" If Yamaha is to dominant this year they might not even get their second free year.

Complacency.
She's a bitch.
And she kills.

You're arguing "under normal conditions, this is all you need"....while discussing the vehicle with the highest fatality rate per capita of anything available to civilians. We're seriously in the realm of "higher fatality rate than home-made airplanes".
Telling people "you dont NEED anything more" is dangerous and irresponsible.

Dunlop is fine. I run Q5s on my playbike and Roadsmart 4s on my commuter streetbike that plays in the mountains. It's on you, the rider, to realize that you cannot treat the tires the same and maybe just, I dunno, NOT go 100% balls to the wall on the street? The Angel GT2/Road6 is probably the best type of tire if you really wanna push on the street, they're sticky enough on the sides, but one tier below them isn't exactly playing with fire.

Any weaving/evading that you're doing likely is well within a more average/mileage focused tire's grip. You're not trailbraking insanely hard while tipping the bike in, nor are you ripping on the throttle hard out of an apex as an evasive maneuver. If you wanna make an actual investment in safety, buy a neon green helite and keep a good following distance.

You type and thus presumably talk and think like a retard, so here's some help: You should have gotten a cheap motel room days ago. Rush order on Amazog a cheap set of chain adjuster blocks and a new chain guide, pretty much all the japanese brands use the same mounting bolt setup. Go to a hardware store and get some loctite and find your missing bolts. I also had to do this when I lost a heel guard bolt.
>>28511929
I said "on the road" and not "in the field" for a reason. If the bike had tubed tires, I would have considered bringing irons and tubes and doing the tires myself at gas stations where I could abuse their air compressor. Don't wreck your shit in the middle of nowhere with no backup plan. A fully kitted out crf450l like that is not a cheap bike, thus shooms must have a decent income, thus shooms should have been smart enough to have a satphone or beacon of some kind, a good toolkit, and the sense to have some contingency plans.

I agree they are typically there to regulate velocity but that’s usually higher performance engines. if the bolt sheared it wouldn't be because it was seized, so with a left hand drill bit it should come right out. Or if you can grab any part of it it should come out. If it cracked the block I guess you're into JB weld.

The oil pan is just bolted straight on the bottom, right? You have a couple options:
>Bolt extractor set
Left handed drill bits and extractors. Purpose built for this. Probably the best option
>Nub sticking out
Cut a flathead slot into it with a Dremel. Put a bunch of rags and shit all around the crank to catch any debris.
