Thats all they ever do. Who cares what enthusiasts want? They don't make up significant sales for most vehicles. They never have a concise or clear demand because whenever automakers try to meet those enthusiast demands it inevitably turns into "its not enough" or "its too expensive".

Enthusiasts are posters on /o/, not people running out to buy shit.

>I said recently that the BMW Z4 is the best of the open sports cars, but after a couple of days with the Mazda I realised I was talking nonsense. The BMW is excellent but the MX-5 demonstrates that its extra speed, extra grip and extra size is all a bit wasteful. In the little Japanese car you get exactly what you need, and exactly the space you need, and nothing more. I realise that the hairy-chested among you will be scoffing and tutting and heading straight for this column on the internet so you can speak your mind. You will say โ€œgirlโ€™s carโ€ and โ€œgayโ€ and all sorts of other things. Well, thatโ€™s fine. You waste your money on a Mustang or a Ferrari. The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason Iโ€™m giving it five stars is because I canโ€™t give it 14.

It seems like people have forgotten that those used to be a thing that NPCs actually drove as commuter cars, instead of pigfat CUVs. I'd rather see tons of these crawling around the street rather than another CR-V or HR-V. Of course I don't want one, I'm not the target market for it.
Any coping otherwise is just defending cuckovers. Of course I already know that coupes sell like shit, which is why there is no more Accord/Camry coupe. I'd just like that to change.

>people will buy a coupe... THIS TIME!

I'm not even mad because this car looks sick. But is anyone going to buy it? People want a 'do everything' car, and that formfactor is the crossover. Imagine putting a carseat in the back of this thing. Maybe you can technically do it in theory, but I'm sure it's annoying as fuck compared to a vehicle with 4 doors. Until something offers a real advantage over crossovers, they will remain the standard transportation for the NPC masses.

My shitbox hatchback can seat 4 adults comfortably (5 if they are women or skinny and don't mind being squished), it can move most furniture if you put the seats down, it gets MPG close to hybrids despite being an old ICE, it's at least a little fun to drive being a smooth manual, only needed the bare minimum in maintenance despite me beating the fuck out of it, and it cost me almost nothing when I bought it (yeah, the market has gone to shit since, but still).

There is no more practical vehicle, and never has been. This is why the jew took the cheap hatchback shitbox away from us.

Integra
Prelude
Silvia/240SX
Cavalier
Saturn SC2
Camry Solara
Lexus SC

Some of those had performance variants or have found a "tuner" niche but they were all intended as lifestyle coupes, cars for normies who didn't care about performance and just wanted a cool 2 door daily.

Problem is I can get a Ford Maverick XL with AWD and 4k tow for 40k and I bet the prelude will start at that. I'm older now and want to go camping and fishing with others, why would I bother with a coupe again

>Who the hell is going to buy
The GT86 (and now GR86) are popular with women. It's a cute, non-imposing, small car that's pretty affordable and very customizable, available in automatic and decent on gas.
The Prelude competes with that by being FWD, which makes it cheaper, leaving room in the budget for a hybrid system to improve MPG. The back seats look comparable, if not a little bit bigger than Toyota's. If Honda can sell at or below the price of a GR86, it could work for them. The small-ish 2+2 coupe market is pretty sad in the era of the bloated crossover. I don't like or want one of these, and I do prefer the GR86, I'm just gay and wanted to make a point

The battery in modern hybrids are never even that low unless somethings failed, and regardless it literally provides voltage from a generator directly to the drive unit. Why do you hate a system when you don't even understand how it works?

It's pretty hard to find the V6 coupes anymore, especially if you want the manual. For normies though, having a warranty, and the social credit for owning a new car, are the major reasons

The market target for these cars either don't have the disposable income or the taste for car to want one. I know several young couples who could afford it, but they only keep around an old junker for when public transit cannot cut it.

It's a psudeo-personal luxury GT car that was made using the more sporty name. It's nowhere near as egregious as the fucking eclipse being turned into a CUV, but it still isn't 100% in the spirit of the nameplate. I think most anons now, especially after cars like the mustang, challenger/charger, 3 series, 86, and others have been able to use their legacy or legacy-like nameplate to give cars that are similar to their old models, are dissapointed that Honda decided to only go about 70-80%

Bleak, but I don't see how Honda could really make a new Prelude that would live up to our expectations. I wouldn't even be mad if it cost as much as a new type r if it was stylish and innovative the way the older gens were.

>Why do you hate a system when you don't even understand how it works?
Not him, but it's probably you who doesn't understand.
Batteries indeed don't go down to 0% SoC, but the controller stops discharging them past certain point to preserve them, and when they can't be discharged, the powertrain can't get the power from them, so you're stuck with only what the ICE can provide, in other words, there's no boost.
