This doesn't even make sense. It's the opposite of slop. It's a batshit insane take on a 400cc engine, at the expense of reliabilty. You could call it a pipe dream or a shop queen, but slop implies it's aimed at the lowest common denominator, and this ain't it.

>90hp from a 400 block is nuts
So you admit you bought because of the gimmick of a overstressed small engine which is effectively a product that doesn't benefit long term ownership to the consumer.

If you're a paperstat autist then sure, it's impressive. However in the real world there's many drawbacks to its design principles. Meanwhile you can pickup a gsxr 600 or some other 600 and it'll run Laps around it while not breaking a sweat in terms of reliability and preformance
>heh is there a 200hp 600???
No because there's no need when 600s are as fun as they are out of the box

As far as Iโ€™m concerned there are very few engine layouts that should exist
There are two appropriate ways to layout 2 and 4 cylinder configurations, nobody ever wanted six cylinders, and thereโ€™s only Vs above 8, except the W12 as a treat
Motorcycles:
>Thumper
>V Twin or Boxer
>V or Inline Four
Cars:
>V8, 10, 12
>W12
I would kindly ask automotive manufacturers to never make another engine again

According to some boomer forum lore I read, the engineering team at Honda that designed this engine initially intended it for a car that never made it to production, but when Honda Europe asked for an 'exotic, sporty' tourer alternative to Goldwing it ended up in the ST1100. Honestly I believe it. Every single part of this bike is hilariously overbuilt and I love it. Power/weight minmaxing weenies know not the soul of such a sturdy displacepig.

I saved this one from the scrapyard with over 70k miles on it based on the title, probably more but the original odo is long gone along with all the fairings. Been slowly rebuilding it into some sort of monstrous naked with a mishmash of 80s/90s Honda parts.

You're wrong anon.
I know this all lines up nicely in your head and you think you have some sort of galaxy brain insight, but the I3 lends itself well to a motorcycle in many ways that have nothing to do with cost. Balance is something you engineer around and a CP3 sounds great when you're in the throttle.

I'm sorry that your ability to appreciate things in life is so constrained by the short sighted biases you've enslaved yourself to. It must be really limiting.

Modding anything engine or drivetrain related is illegal in many places even many US states. Anything that changes valve lift or increases fuel needed will affect emissions and they put that blurb in so that wouldn't be sued. Wow.

BMWs motorcycles last forever. Most bikes do even RE. exception is KTM, Shitalian and Chink. I'd be willing to give non chink ktms a real chance.

F450gs will be a cheaper buy than nx500. Also, nx500 is slow and heavy and gay. Where are the spoke wheels? Honda made that nx500 a nerfed beginner bike. They should've made it more in vein of transalp.

thanks for the imput
i did a throttle body reset and just did the ini run because why not, and it worked well today afterwards.
took the gas right away as it should and went down to idle straight away when i closed the throttle.
its still not perfect. the idle wasnt perfect and i think there must be something off, even if it works normal while riding.

feels like its constantly softly "popping" when i coast, not full on backfire but slight popping as if its letting a tiny bit of fuel into the engine while coasting, and i think thats also the reason why all my dampening material was burned out when i got the bike.
i will bring it to the shop and have the mapping checked and have them read out the faults.

on a different note the conti sm2 is absolutely great, i did not manage to make it lose grip at all at the rear today, amazing tire i can really recommend it from what ive experienced until now.
gonna be interesing how long it actually lasts.

and i stand by that.
i think most of the potential of the tires that im riding is wasted on me, because i dont ride as good as people who really fully utilize them, but to be honest it doesnt matter much to me.
what i do is
>check which tire is the best gripping one for dry, warm asphalt
>buy it
yeah they dont last that long and they arent cheap but its a sacrifice im willing to make to not have to constantly think
>maybe a different tire would give more confidence

I did 40,000 miles ish with road 5s and each tyre would catch a nail at the 1,000 mile mark. They're really good except for their insatiable appetite for nails.
I bounced around a few different brands to actually test what tyres are good instead of reading shill reviews.
In my collective experience I now use Metzler Z8s. I tried the roadtec 01 and the later SE variant but they liked to square off and scallop before the tyre tread ran out. I couldn't find any literature about any updates to the rubber compound from z8 -> 01 so it must be the same and they feel exactly the same to me. The Z8 tyre tread pattern must be good because they revived it in the roadtec 02.
I'd steer clear of any pierrelia or wtf ever they're called, none that I tried ever had a decent wet grip, tried the st, GT and GT 2.

Overall I'm surprised I settled for a 10 year old tyre model because I usually would buy the latest and greatest but here we are

Scrubbing in tires is a meme, new tires grip fine. This is one day of wear on a Q5S, probably like 5 miles total

You guys clearly have never done big roadtrips on your bike. It's a fuckign nuisance to have to deal with gearing, especially when going through traffic and cities after 6-10h+ of driving. The charm of "I FEEL CONNECTED WITH MY VEHICLE" wears off really fast when you put real miles on your vehicle.

BMW R<whatever>GS is literally "overland + street" (Gelande Strasse). All the good ADVs can do it these days. The GS, Honda Africa Twin, Harley Pan America. If you want something more dirtbikey but still highway capable, the Yamaha Tenere 700. If you want an actual dirtbike, Suzuki DR650 or Kawasaki KLR650 or Honda XR650L.
