It's a meme bike, they want to keep their slow spinning durka durka tractor engine.
The only way to make power here is just to make engine bigger.
Maybe they should supercharge them and make 6 gorillion torque, that should push it up to 120hp at least.

I had a 77 Electra Glide with a 93 cubic inch S&S shovelhead. Bike was cool but ended up selling it. Wound up with a 2010 Dyna Fat Bob FXDF with the 96 before eventually getting a 2013 Fat Bob with the 103. Love the rubber mounted big twins, the twin cams were both just mild bolt ons but ran real healthy. Perfect bar hopping bikes, long distance sucks because loud exhaust and no fairings.

FXR is really king, but Dyna is the next best thing. They got bigger from 07-17. Little longer, little heavier, might be more fitting if you’re really a big guy. I have an 05, the last of the smaller ones. Avoid 06. It was a transition year, so it’s got a lot of bespoke shit. You can get a good deal on an 06, but try and avoid them. Don’t get a wide glide unless you wanna be that dude that spins out on the highway and eats shit.

They’re better because Harley stopped producing shit in America in 2017, they just assembled them here beyond that.

Harley has been dying a slow death for a long time. As boomers disappear their target market goes with it. How many electric bikes did they sell like 5? There are a few models I might consider but factor in the price and they are essentially untenable.
Anonymous No.28540506 >>28541212
I think one of harleys biggest problems is their lack of performance. Underwhelming chassis. Wooden brakes, Shit suspension. Articles written about their powerplants and when it would give a chp number it would just say: n/a
Not applicable? Horsepower numbers not applicable? LOL And to top that off they sold the image and convinced riders performance wasn't necessary or was somehow virtuous to not worry about performance...just nice paint jobs? It's a damn shame and they have no one to blame but themselves. Some of their racing bikes were/are cool but they need to completely revitalize the brand and actually make a competitive product. If I am wrong please show me the error of my ways

And didn't harleys ceo double down on a bunch of woke garbage too? gross

Had a 42WLA for a time. (I'm old)
It was 9000 shades of rust-oleum, was missing a fuckton of the neat bits, and had sat in a dairy farmer's implement shed for a few decades.
Got it going, hit it with some cheap OD flat and semigloss black rattlecan and rode it for a while.
Pros?
>Nobody could easily steal it, as it took arcane majiks to get it running.
>It looked pretty badass, and had DAT IDLE.
>You could be the slowest and shittiest bike at a run, but you were still on a WLA. Lots of people gave you respect for keeping it on the road.
Cons?
>It was a WLA. You were never getting anywhere fast, or quietly.
>You leaked oil. Everywhere.
>Pre common internet, parts were a PITA to find.
>It would often decide that it liked the current vistas, and would refuse to start. You could not keep a timetable with an old WLA.

I ended up selling it to a militaria collector in Gaylord, Michigan and bought my first late 60's Triumph, which was a MUCH better bike.
Still, I wish I could find another old WLA. They're a very comfy bike.

I’ve got a 2012 883 Iron with just under 10k miles. It’s got ape hangers, foot peg extensions, and a screamin eagle exhaust.
However, one of the mirrors needs replacing, tires probably getting close to that too, some of the paint is chipping on the front thing that holds the forks, and the rear breaks don’t work.
All that being said- how much should I be asking for it?
I don’t ride it anymore, and I’m looking to sell it to someone who can take better care of it and who could enjoy it.

Boomers don't like the direction harley went and they don't like how they're not treated like family at dealerships anymore, and yadda yadda

Jap bikes aren't some refuge in globalism either. You do realize that all the big jap brands make all their shit in thailand except for one or two flagship models, right? like honda's fireblade and africa twin still get 'made' in japan, but everything else is from thailand.

It depends on the manufacturer. As far as I can tell, all the Suzuki models have VIN’s that start with J. Same with Yamaha, except for their 300cc bikes. With Honda and Kawasaki, it’s more like what you described.

I'm not trolling I'm genuinely curious why. That HP/L ratio I could see in a 30 year old engine but engine technology has gotten a lot better. Are Harleys the 1911's of bikes?

Made more for torque, e.g low rider s has more torque off the line than the r1 has at any rpm and maxes out at almost 2x the torque of the R1’s max torque. HP wise the r1 beats it once it gets to 8 or 9k RPM. It’s just a different bike for different purposes. If all you’re worried about is top speed then you want a high revving engine. Also, the Harley engines tend to be a bit simpler if only for the fact that they are air cooled (some have external oil coolers too now though). I used to ride a sport bike but I have no desire to go 120+ mph on public roads anymore. A top speed of 120 that I can get to very quickly is more than enough, I rarely ever even go 100.
Anonymous No.28570889
>>28570705
They have incredibly long strokes and by nature are going to make less power than a liquid cooled engine. Long stroke is the enemy of extremely high hp because of how it's calculated. A Miata revs higher than a Harley. The chassis aren't made to go that fast anyway.
Anonymous No.28570911 >>28570932 >>28571052 >>28571267
>>28570733
They're gonna cope about not actually wanting to go fast and torque despite their bike weighing more than twice what everything else does, so their $20k POS are still slow by any metric.
Anonymous No.28570932
>>28570911
If you buy a Harley to go fast you are pretty retarded outside of, say, the Pan America ST. They don't have ground clearance. Most of them have single disk front brakes. They have about the same power/weight as a Z400, so a bit more acceleration than the average car, but nothing crazy. You buy one because you can tweak the riding position to fit you perfectly and a just be a nice ride at sane speeds. You just have to buy multiple bikes if you want to actually tear up the roads.

Exactly this. The typical Harley isn’t built for the race track; it’s designed to cruise in comfort at highway speeds. Comparing sport bikes to Harleys is a bit like comparing a Porsche 911 to a Lincoln Continental.

I have the HD mustache highway bars up front that serve the same purpose, I don’t think you could have both together at the same time. I like these mustache highway bars because they are comfortable forward foot rests while also serving as wider protection than just the bar type sliders.
