Are their new CVTs bad or is that a meme? How much does the physical first gear for launching help with longevity?

I bought the 2019 corrola in 2019
For some reason they replaced my transmission for free. Never had a problem with it. 50k miles.

I've never heard bad things about 'yota CVTs. Honda and DEFINITELY Nissan...yes.

transmissions in general are bad. probably the best thing about electric cars is how they have very simple ones or none at all.

All the Toyota CVT trannies have recalls on them. Good luck.

My 20 year old 4L80E that still shifts perfectly begs to differ.

It's boring to drive, but extremely simple and thus very reliable.

Toyota cvts are more reliable than manual transmissions from most other manufacturers

The very first year they had issues and were immediately recalled. After that they are the most reliable CVT out their as they are a system where the first gear is a automatic trans and then the other are CVT putting less strain on the CVT. Really you should only truly care about getting a 2019-2020 model, every model after is fine

I have one of these. Serious improvement over a traditional CVT, it launches hard and linearly progresses with RPM. Once it jumps to second gear, the CVT, you’re already riding and it does feel as bad anymore.
CVTs really suck from a standstill.

Mine’s 2021, if that matters.

The only decent CVT transmission is the one from Subaru, rest are mediocre to downright shit.

How to know if a particular CVT will be dogshit or not? Are there key features or do I just have to read reviews on a case by case basis?
