Uh yeah the miata has less power than a literbike. Of course they're slow as fuck. Got the impression when I tried my friends 1996 one day back in 2018. Really did not understand the appeal, it felt like driving the car version of a honda rebel 250. Literally too slow to be fun, at least for me. I know there's about to be a pile of ad hominem arguments coming my way but at the end of the day power to weight ratio is the single most important statistic in motorsport. They're not bad cars outright though, good on you for driving something with personality.

The appeal is that you can toss it into corners and you can take them even faster with the throttle down unlike most cars . And you can redline every gear for decades and the fucker won't die, you have to rev over 4k to get any acceleration.
If you have an LSD one it'll kick the rear out any time you want it, even starting from a stop hard enough the rear will slide a little left or right.
t. Had '95 for 11 years. Power to weight and weight balance are just bullshit filler words for jounalists.

its small, light, and WEAK.
yes, WEAK.
in the context of cars you drive in the real world, and not in a track, that is a GOOD thing.

if you own a BMW, you can NEVER really drive it hard. EVER.
step on the throttle for a couple seconds, you're breaking the speed limit.
keep stepping on it for a couple more, you're probably gonna die. unless you're on a highway, in which case you're looking at your license being taken away plus maybe some jail time.

in a miata, you can actually drive that thing HARD. you can launch it, rev out 1st/2nd to the limiter, and you're still not breaking the law. or, if you are, its not by a lot, you're still within the realm of just getting a ticket.
in the twisties? yea you can put your foot down hard after every turn, and keep it down for a while, and you'll still have time to break for the next turn. in a BMW, you're going off the road if you try that shit.
so yea, its fun because unlike "real" sports cars, you can actually drive it hard.
also its actually affordable, unlike a BMW.

Let's be honest here: It probably would have won elsewhere too. Those things only weigh like 3000 pounds loaded, there's a K24 driving it and the stock airbox unironically takes up 1/4th of the engine bay, you can cram some much shit in there if you rip it out and go to a cold air. Your best bet to beat that thing is hoping it rolls over.

Continuing this.
Elements and the 1st+2nd gen Crvs have the real estate to do some pretty stupid sleeper because they have that K24 in a relatively cavernous engine bay. Just looking at the element owners club site the two most common mods are a 6th gear mod on the tranny and forced induction. I see turbos and super chargers on here.

Yeah because they're going for "aesthetics," i didnt literally mean acceleration is the only thing people care about.
My point is, if you're saying a slower car is inherently more fun because you're not breaking the law, it means you'd take the exact same car but with 300hp instead of 500hp, just because it's slower.
Absolutely no one on the planet thinks like this.
>>28534912
There's a reason why premium/luxury cars have bigger engines and are faster.
People pay more for more power. No one pays to go slower so they can "rev out the car at the speed limit"

I think like this. I am genuinely considering buying a V6 manual 5th gen camaro because 314hp is plenty for a daily driver I can toss around when nobody's looking. The V8 would cost more to buy, cost more to maintain and fuel, and get to illegal speeds faster which means less time being able to floor it. I have driven 5th gens in all combinations (V6 manual, V6 auto, V8 manual, V8 auto) and while I won't deny the V8 sounds much better, it's harder to have fun in on the street.

When you prioritize things like compactness, lightness, naturally aspirated engine and proper sports car geometry, plus practicality, thereโ€™s truly nothing quite like it. The original Lotus Elan comes close, but realistically, itโ€™s not a feasible option to own. I'm quite interested in seeing if I can drive an Elan one of these days, as I've heard they are even more of a joy to drive.
