Second kid on the way and need options for ideal family haulers with a $50k budget. It's getting harder and harder to keep driving the family around in my corolla and my wife's sentra, which, shockingly, hasn't completely fallen apart yet. We have family in different states so anticipate traveling more.
>looking for something reliable, safe, comfortable
Considering a used Lexus GX460. Seemingly the only downsides are fuel economy and a shitty 3rd row, though we will likely have 2 kids max so the 3rd row isn't a concern. They seem to hold their value and depreciate less than other vehicles, which would be a benefit if I ever needed to trade it in. Shit, the new horrible GX rework may even mean the older gens appreciate in value.
What would you choose?

I bought a minivan after my second kid. They offer the most front seat leg room when there's a car seat behind you in the second row. If you're a manlet this might not matter to you.

3rd gen Town & County for $4k. I generally stay away from Chrysler, but this gen's engine has a timing chain and is known for reliability. In 2006, this was the nicest minivan you could buy. It's optioned out. You're probably looking for something newer though. The only other minivan that uses a timing chain is 2007+ sienna, but they go for 2x as much, and lack many of the features the Chrysler has.

Toyota Sienna AWD. GX460 does the following a hell of a lot better than the Sienna:

That's about it. You have other personal wants that has led you to the Lexus than getting a hybrid minivan.

These days it's the Chrysler Pacifica. If I see a fleet of black Pacifica Hybrids heading to the capital city, I know it's full of illegals that are about to be deported, not always to their country of origin.

Feds sure do love their black minivans. Literally no one notices them even when they run in convoys.

Kia Carnival is WAY nicer and newer than the Sienna. Sienna you only get a rough shitty slow 2.5 4 banger - Kia you get a v6
Kia has way better ADAS, much nicer interior, bigger screens, comfier seats, etc.

The Kia Carnival is very popular overseas, especially in Australia. The only gripe I have with the Carnival is that they won't put AWD on it even though the Telluride (that's on the same large car platform) has AWD.

Toyota literally cannot sell enough Siennas because of its fuel economy. It's about twice that of conventional minivans and companies want them as fleet vehicles, families want them because it's an excellent long-term car, and it attracts vanlifers because Toyota hybrids are very good camping cars, plus they can be optioned with inverters.

I understand the upgrade from a corolla to an SUV/crossover but why do you need 3 rows?
Anonymous No.28543857 >>28547813
>>28542893 (OP)
Modern SUV's don't give you a lot of bang for your buck. If you only have two kids you're much better off with a half ton or larger crew cab pickup. You can get them new and decently equipped for $50k. Statistically they're one of the safest vehicles you can drive and they have pretty ridiculous resale values. Their fuel economy is going to be on par or better than that Lexus. Also ignore anybody suggesting a minivan. They're extremely overrated and expensive which is why they don't sell.

>>28543846
2 row SUV's and crossovers usually have fuck-all for cargo room. Most 3 row SUV's/crossovers with the third row folded down offer much more cargo room which matters when you have big ass strollers to haul.

Minivan, 100%. Even large SUVs feel cramped in comparison to a good old van. Sienna for mpg, Odyssey for the most features, and Pacifica/Town&Country for the most comfortable. Your kids will love having some actual space to themselves, and most have separate AC and screens for the rear seats.

Why be so snarky for? You clearly haven't had kids and have zero standing in this discussion.

Putting a child in a baby seat is unergonomic at best. The smaller the car, the more difficult. The lower the car, the more difficult. Babies scream and cry as you do it.

Modern cars, despite growing in size, don't necessarily have larger doors/access, mostly due to safety specifications. My rav4 rear doors are pretty small.

When you cart a baby around, you need a pram and a mini hospital bag and are doing nappy changes in there. You need space for this. Once again, it's a stressful scenario and you want all the convenience that you can get. We sold our veloster for a rav4, and the rav4 is only just big enough for a rear facing baby seat, and doing groceries and storing a pram at the same time

Pram =stroller

Also, weighs significantly less than all other regular sized mini vans by like 1000lbs+, theyโ€™re also dirt cheap too. 23 mpg is not eye opening by any means but itโ€™s better than a V8 SUV or a non hybrid minivan which is why I brought it up. I've got two kids and a full size crew cab. If for some reason you don't want a (mini)van, it works really well, would recommend. Reliable, comfy, easy to get car seats and strollers and toddlers in and out of. Crew cab pickup is the sedan of modern America. We're trying for a third and don't plan to replace the truck any time soon (but the wife's escape might get traded in on a suburban, we'll see.) Pick your brand, so long as it has a V8 or glow plugs it's probably a solid choice. Except nu Ford with the wet belt in the 5.0, if you want a new Ford step up to the super duty with the 7.3 or powersmoke (then you can get an 8' bed too.)

>Anytime I see someone in a Kia i assume they have poor credit

I am convinced, legitimately that Kia dealerships target people who arrived in the USA less than 5 years ago.

If Anon wants to fit
>Wife and Kids
>Two Strollers
>Groceries or luggage
In the car all at once, he needs something kind of big. Strollers are fucking enormous these days, and you're not fitting all that shit in the trunk of a midsize sedan, sadly. A wagon would work but they more or less no longer exist in North America.

I'll never understand this retardation.
>I have le two kids I NEED a huge vehicle!!
My dumbass sister went and financed an escalade after having ONE kid. Sedans seat 5 if you're not obese.

American families easily exceed half a ton in total weight, that's why they all buy huge pickups that can haul 30k pounds. One American wife alone will get very close to that weight limit.

Good for her. That kid is now very well protected.

it ends up being the same because everyone else is driving a huge SUV or pickup anyways. faggot.

Nope.

1. Two largest SUVs crashing into each other is safer for the occupants than two small lightweight cars crashing into each other.

2. Not all accidents involve another car. You could strike a tree. Safer in the large SUV.

3. If all other drivers are in fact driving large SUVs and trucks, then it behooves you to drive one as well. As I assure you your little shitbox tin can will lose against a 6,000 lb Escalade, badly.

If it was actually about safety you'd be taking driving courses and not letting women drive.

I'd support outlawing women driving. But as is, that isn't the case. Imagine how little traffic there would be.

Dude why would you buy a new car?
If anything just get a Honda CRV off-lease and save your money.
