Driving test in America is 30 or so multiple choice questions self-administered on a computer. For the driving part they just want to know you can start and turn off the car. Mine, they took me around the block, had me pull over to the side of the street, and we looped back to the DMV. No freeway, no parallel parking, not even reversing.

I don't have any problem parallel parking per se but when it comes to very tight spaces like diagonal of the car + 1 foot. I can't quite look at a space and say it's 16 feet as opposed to 17 feet. And my car doesn't have a rear view camera as well so when behind me is a sedan. I have to just try and judge by looking at the car's roof behind. It's horrible honestly. With that said I can do judge a 20 feet space from a 17 feet one. But not from 16 feet to 17 feet. Wish I had better precision.

the last time I had a rental the guy just gave it a walkaround and that was it. I doubt there are many dedicated guys at these places who'd notice a difference in sound and even if they look into the engine bay most probably wouldn't realize. That's assuming you did everything correctly. By the time it goes to the mechanic for inspection or w/e it'd have been rented out to so many different people they couldn't track you down.
