I'm thinking that Ford is probably done as an organization. It's always needed a strong Ford in charge and none are in the wings. Further, the Ford family seems not to care about the company beyond it being a vanity bauble. No doubt most of their money now comes from financials instead of Ford Motor.

A strong steward like Mulally can get the company back to good but it can never be great without a pompous, vain, complete asshole Ford in charge.
