md5: 1db4ed4eb17ca04d1b63a420dd1c8318๐Ÿ”
Post cheap car accessories that make your car just a little better. Things like:
>floor mats
>seat covers
>phone mounts
>custom lighting
>antenna toppers
Anything that's cheap, easier to install, and just makes driving a little bit more fun.

I did not like Tuxmats in my 911. The sticky pads with the velcro and clips to give it a better fit were tacky as fuck and made it a poor choice if you chose to remove them for spring/summer and go back to carpeted floormats.

The only acceptable time to do this is if the previous owner of your car already scrapped the stock head unit, and you can't find someone selling one.
Otherwise phone mount + Bluetooth transmitter or aux cable. I don't fuck with my phone while driving but it is nice to be able to see gps at a glance

If they're not rubber or something like that, they'll never dry in the autumn, and the car will end up smelling a mix of bilge and that small mat you put in front of the house door to catch the worst mud and slush.

Refreshing your floor mats is fine.
Seat covers always look like shit to cover up a ripped seat because the owner is too poor to just buy another seat.
Phone mounts are moronic for any car with carplay or AA. You don't need your phone facing you while driving, thats cope.
Custom lighting universally looks stupid. Replacing an OEM light on a budget? Sure, but swapping out tail lights to be worse and headlights to be annoying, you're a jackass.
Antenna toppers can be fun accessories, but I think the tiny stubs and shark fin antennas are superior.

Has OP never been in a modern car?

fuck you. android/apple auto is hot garbage
>drains your phone battery, runs your device hot
>cars USB port barely charges your phone
>instead of comfortably grasping your phone in your hand, you now have to use a less featured shittier touchscreen while hovering your hand in front of your dash with nothing to grab on to trying to input data.
>oh whats that, your car is moving at 1mph, lets lock out text entry, please use voice.
pic related is the best phone mount. the sphere lets you rotate your phone in almost any direction, you can mount it on any surface, and it will float much like those modern touch screens that look like an afterthought.
now your fully functional phone is in clear sight, you can easily grasp it with your fingers to stabilize your hand for flawless text entry. your phone will never force you to use voice.
Need to take a picture of a funny license plate, reach out and grab your phone with ease.
time to get out of your car, grab and run
getting back in, slap that bitch on that mount and it will self center, one had operation. no need to slide any panels or have some ugly phone holder taped to your dash. the metal sphere is lowkey af.

my 70s headunit/tape deck is perfection, i just need a phone mount so i can legally use maps on it without being done for using a phone while driving since it makes using the phone 'hands free'. Its more of a legal thing than anything

Anyway i have a leather steering wheel cover i stitched onto my wheel, a St Christopher necklace on the rear view mirror, five bags of quarters on the dashboard+a Mother Mary badge on the dashmat i cut for the dash, a half centre console to put on the trans tunnel, and two cassette bins in the passenger footwell to choose tapes out of

I'm not sure when we go so many retarded tourists here, but being a contrarian cocksucker doesn't make you cool.
screen suck because their controls suck and as I just said, get outdated extremely quickly.
The state of the artโ„ข screens of 2015 are already antiquated garbage that feel like absolute ass to use. In another 5 years, the screens of today will feel like antiquated garbage that feel like absolute ass to use.
Meanwhile the buttons and knobs in my 45 year old golf feel just as good to use as they would have back then.
Putting modernโ„ข tech into cars is the best way to guarantee obsolescence and make them feel old and outdated as soon as the newest thing is released. Analog will be good forever.

tl;dr: new cars suck dick, old cars are better. This is objective fact and you can go ahead and kill yourself if you think differently. This is not a board for (you).

A new aftermarket DIN touchscreen that slots perfectly into your car and even emulates the original unit is easy to install if you're not a total wrenchlet and costs about as much as an iPad.
Dashboard screens suck because you can usually only buy OEM, but anyone who joneses for a phone mount and pooh-poohs a replacement unit is either trolling or too stupid to realize how incompatible those opinions are

>car audio will always be absolute dogshit, its about the worst possible sound environment imaginable
Funny you say that, because if the car is well isolated it's one of the very best environments for listening to speakers. You know where the listeners are going to be sitting, you can insulate the cabin so little noise leaks and subwoofers don't rattle the interior. You've never been in a LS with Mark Levinson or any car with Burmester sound systems.

All Android auto these days is shitty jeet code with nanny features. Absolutely hate it. Plus cables in cars never seem to last. My brand new Toyota head unit can't automatically switch between Bluetooth and AA connection, you have to go deep into a menu.

In my 2003 evo, I have a phone mount on the dash, up high, close to my hands, so I can manipulate my phone without taking my eyes or hands off the road/controls further than necessary

Bluetooth connection for media and calls

Big screens are only good for reverse camera and 360 camera. My favourite modern car features.

Lots of stock head unit suck - 2016 top of the line Veloster, not only does the navigation function expire, but the unit started failing and throwing codes and there was no firmware update available, only full oem replacement.

This. They age so badly. My 2020 Civic already feels antiquated compared to my 2003 Accord which has a standard radio. I hate car infotainment systems so much, and they ALL lag. Yes, even in your $500k supercar it still lags. No manufacturer can make a good infotainment system so they just shouldn't bother and just have a place to put a phone instead.
Modern phones have bigger screens than most infotainment units anyway.
>>28550114
>A new aftermarket DIN touchscreen that slots perfectly into your car
No it doesn't, most modern cars don't use the DIN standard and there's no way an aftermarket unit will work with all the car's systems. These stupid infotainment screens are way too ingrained into modern cars' systems.

Eyeballs are based but they can't protect you from rolling radar, my radar detector is relatively cheap and it has detected the weak KA band signal from cops flipping it on off axis around a freeway bend while they're driving, it's worth having on top of waze.

Then I realised that my car, a 2003 evo, should give a gaudy neon flashing single din unit to be period correct (this is what I currently have)

Yes i agree, the price of 500 is very big nosed kike behaviour, they are bastards for capitalizing on retro, i went for the cheaper (100euros) route, and if i understand correctly the radio i went for is not the 80s cassette, but more early 2000s CD player style, i thought it would go well with my 1996 Cherokee XJ which had the old style pre-facelift straight dashboard, pic related is radio
But i also agree with period correct like you mentioned, you have sense in that
