EVs uniquely are top speed limited because as the electric motor spins faster it begins to create more and more back EMF which makes the motor harder to spin, since the magnetic field inside them changes
this can be alleviated with a two speed transmission, which reduces e-motor speed at higher vehicle speeds, but most EV motors are perfectly happy until about 85 mph anyway, so it’s not something that manufacturers are really seeking to fix (outside of Porsche, AMG, etc)
