its an expensive hobby that requires mostly a lot of money.
you either
> have a truck or large SUV to tow it
> have a trailer to hold it
> have a garage or barn to stow it
> have regular lake or ocean or river access, whether public or private
> are capable of winterizing it yourself
> are capable of launching and docking the boat
> are capable of maintaining all of these things
or are paying/finding someone to do some or all of those things.

imo, its the worst hobby, UNLESS you own waterfront property. jet skis are immensely based though. they are so much more fun than snowmobiles or dirtbikes

Worked in a marina and as a boat trailer mechanic. Owned a 26 foot center console I rebuilt from the hull up off an insurance auction. Some retarded decisions I’ve seen boat owners make.
>Trying to launch a boat with a RWD truck that spins down the slick boat launch into the water
Better have GAP insurance
>Buying a swing tongue so they can store the trailered boat in their garage
DO. NOT. DO. THIS. The number of retards (Russians and faggots from Wilton Manors mostly) that smash the prop right through drywall or forget to secure the pin and dump their boat is unreal.
>Try to launch a fuck huge boat by themselves and end up getting dragged into the water or let go of their boat
>Marina jews
Literal jews. Every fucking holiday. Jewing up the dock. Complaining about everything in that New York jew accent. Can’t drive a boat for shit. Smashing into shit. Blaming everyone else for it. They boat like niggers drive.

Did this but as boat mechanic for yamaha and Johnson evinrude,
>best advice i can give to anyone buying a boat is to be patient.
you will find the best deal out of nowhere usually when someone needs to get rid of their personal boat for financial reasons.
>i have seen numerous people buy projects and end up with to much money poured in to some boat thats not even worth rebuilding.
As far as engines get them brand new with low hours.

>Egscuse me! E-Egscuse me! Sir! Sir! We owdered this bait yestaday but this is frooozen and I can’t get it on the hook! I cawlled in yestaday and specifically requested my bait thawwed
>We only sell it frozen, you absolutely bait a hook with frozen bait, you can’t fish off the dock so I know you haven’t tried, and I’ve got another boat I have to put in in your spot in ten minutes so let’s go
>Do ya have any loive bait since you fogot to thaw it?
>I didn’t forget-ugh. No. Get a move on we need the dock.
>I guess we’ll have ta retoyn this bait then
>No returns
>Weeeve been custamuhs heya fo years!
>Ive never seen you. Ever.
>Do you know John?
>Nobody named John works here
>John is the owner. We woyked togedda in the teachahs union
>You mean Jeff?
Jeff doesn’t exist.
>Yeah Jeff he always used ta thaw my bait
>Yeah he died in a tragic bait thawing accident
>Ya know you’re not very good customah basedvice!
>Im the fucking forklift driver and you’re fucking my line up! Let’s go!
>Im pulling my boat outta heya ya fuckin prick!
>Gets in his piece of shit whaler
>Ignores his fat wrinkled heebitt wife complaining

Some of the bigger jetskis are practically small boats now. With all the annoying aspects of a small boat, very expensive to keep going, fuel and depending on the brand they're getting into low-end, new car money once you factor in the trailer and someone to stick the damn thing.
Lot of fun, almost practical for more than one person doing some things, but no poors allowed, if you're poor you can just fuck right off to the canoe isle

>Ask for one pound of meat
>It's 1.02lbs
>OYY VEEEY
>Makes me rip the fucking tiny piece of meat off so it's exactly 1 pound

Also my mom dated a Jew. I shit you not he had some money dispute with the bank and after he got his money he rubbed his hands.

Mechanically I think they're fascinating, especially some of the larger vessels. But I'm terrified of being on open waters, so I'll just admire them from the shore

that checks out.
my uncle had a 1998 VXR and that thing was a PAIN to get on and off of. if you had 2 people, then you were guaranteed to flip at least once. then he got rid of it for a 2007 Aquatrax, and you can barely tip that thing. Ive ridden modern 3 seater sea doos, and theyre even more stable than the aquatrax.
the aquatrax is a bit of a unique ski though, honda had some hull designs which were very far ahead of yamaha and sea doo at the time. i want to buy a non turbo one someday if i ever get the space for it

Oh I quit that job and moved out of Florida years ago. Shit was miserable. Between the Jews constantly trying to Jew us, the Cubans stealing our trailers, the blacks stealing our electronics, and the women being insufferably shallow whores I was done. The only good thing about it was banging tourists and fishing.
>Jew comes in for trailer
>21 foot boat
>Insists on buying a way undersized trailer against our professional advice
>Yooo can’t Jew a Jew sonny
>Make him sign a liability waiver before we sell it to him
>Meet him at the dock to deliver his trailer and take his trade in
>23 footer with over sized motor held down by the winch
>Hes towing it behind a brand new Navigator
>Boss tells me to watch this shit
>Swap the trailers
>Jew waves all happy at saving a few hundred bucks
>Starts driving up the boat ramp
>Car and trailer level out
>Bow of the boat drops down and smashed out the window and crumples the rear door about three inches
>Boss starts laughing as the retard gets out to inspect the damages
>Boss pulls the truck up
>Yoooo muthafuckas are gonna fix this!
>Boss holds the liability waiver up and laughs as we drive off
I watch so many trucks get fucked up by retards trying to be cheap and overload trailers.
>>28550636
Salt water fucks them up so fast. They get stolen out of storage yards and driveways almost as often as Garmin GPS does. I promise you that it’s not worth the money.

A boat is a hole in the lake you try to fill with money.
The happiest day in a boat owner's life is when they stick someone else with it
Unless you have enough money that you wouldn't be posting on here, a boat is a bad idea

hahahha reminds me of the times i used to redoo the entire electricity on a boat, usually takes a month or two depending on the projects scale.
after its done we would take it out for a sea trial or water test and the owners trailer had electrical issues with the brake lights and turn signals.
>noooo it was perfectly fine until you guys got a hold of it.

>"your mechanic put those in there!"
>okay we'll pull up the shop security cameras to prove it
>"um, ah, um, well, wait"
>no no if you think our mechanic damaged your car intentionally we should call the police as well to file a report, we want to have the facts straight because you get in trouble filing a false police report
>"no no no you don't have to do that, it must be a misunderstanding, I'll pay the bill"

having lived on a lake in michigan
aluminum fishing boats are cheap and easy to maintain
same with pontoons, which seem to make up 90% of lake traffic now
the only shit that actually will bankrupt you are the yacht 'deals'
it should be obvious but those 35ft cabin cruisers with twin mercruisers and a flybridge for 21k will cost that much per year to run/maintain

Just inherited a sail boat from my dad, not sure how to feel honestly. Currently looking to move it out of the intercostal and up a river near me to avoid big storms and expensive mooring/marinas.
Then it’s getting solar/generators working consistently. Hopefully I’m just gonna sail on weekends to springs and small towns during the off season. Maybe quit my job and sail to the Bahamas for a few weeks and surf. I’m 100% positive that something else will go wrong but I’ve repaired it with my dad my whole childhood and we’ve had it for 50 years so I’m not selling it because it’s worthless and I’m retarded.

The big Kawasaki Ultra's are worth a look if you want performance and they turn ok as well.
Fuck they're expensive though, sometimes 3-4k more than a Seadoo and most of the other equivalent JP brands. The smart man would be opening a shop for repairs of them though, somewhere between 3-400hr later they'll be doing some engine out levels of work and it would just be funny to watch them die from heart attacks when the bill comes in
