So there's a car I see a few times a month on my way to work. Their car is hard to miss because of the color and custom license plate. They have their ig account stickered to their car and when I checked it out it had picks of them going to local car meets and hanging out with other car guys. Would it be weird to dm them on ig and see if I can get into the scene and drive around with them? I'd really like to because I always have fun driving with them when I see them in the morning and I really want to get in my local car scene but I don't know what the protocol is here.

I can't walk up and ask them, anon. I only see them a few random times a month when we're both driving to work. We take the same route for about 20-25 minutes before our route splits. I don't know where they work.

I wouldn't have resorted to checking their ig if I could talk to them in person.

I don't know if things have changed since the '00s but it used to be everyone met up in the same 2-3 spots in a town on Fri/Sat nights. If his IG has night pics of the same location alot, try going there at 10PM on one of those days.

for me i just kept going on random drives to nowhere in particular for fun, wasn't expecting to make new friends at all, got lucky twice.
the first instance the guys i talked to afterwards said that when they saw my tail lights they just assumed it was just some old guy on his way home or something like that until i started hammering it around the corners lel. at the time i thought i was about to get pwned by a cop when i saw their headlights come up really quick in my mirrors. Figured they weren't cops when i saw more headlights behind them and realised it was a convoy so i let loose.
second time was an outlander or some mitsubishi crossover hanging beside me, i look over and notice it's full of late teens/early 20-somethings all cheering/smiling at my car. Ended up having fun pulling a shopping cart around in an empty parking lot with them
