Why are Japanese car companies dead set on putting a CVT into every single vehicle they make and absolutely nuking the reliability of their entire auto industry? I almost think it's Chinese or Korean industrial saboteurs at this point.

Likely because Jatco is one of the leading manufacturers of CVTs, as well as a major supplier of transmissions for all Japanese brands. CVTs also generally have better gas mileage, however slightly, than normal automatics. None of the cars in that picture have a CVT by the way

I have an old Land Cruiser and an understressed low trim Mercedes C-Class. A CVT absolutely will not.

reliability issues aside, I don't understand the hatred for CVTs from a driving perspective. I drive stick now, but I drove a CVT corolla for years (now my wifes car), and it was no worse to drive than a regular geared automatic transmission.

It genuinely sucks. I drove an 18 Maxima for a few years and the ride was the smoothest Ive ever driven.. but by the time I hit 59k miles I just couldn't shake feeling paranoid it could blow at any moment. Even the guys at the dealership had nothing but a shrug for suggestions besides changing the trans oil every 20k miles which is retarded

That's the issue. They've reduced the average lifespan of Japmobiles from double the industry average to half. Dreadful horrifical droning rubber band tinboxes instead of precise yet cavemen simply enduring clockwork transmissoins. A gross misstep in automotive technology. The Koreans and Americans are already moving back towards conventional AT but the Japanese are still going all in on CVT. Nissan/Jatco now has a Mexican CEO who is trying to bring Nissan & Mitsubishi back as cheap comfortable ultra reliable cars with conventional automatics but the damage is done. Japanese cars will be known as unreliable and overcomplicated for the remainder of the decade like German cars were in the last decade.

They're loud as fuck to the point you're damaging your hearing while driving prolonged periods of time on the highway. They feel rubber bandy, more like an EV. That i don't give a shit about, if they could fix the loud noise and reliability no one would care much about the feel. They don't skip around going up steep hills like automatics do, but your eardrums blow out instead. Once you know where your gears are in an auto, you don't have that issue as much going up hills anyway.
