I had a 550 Maranello for three years. It was probably the best car I’ve owned and I’m after another one. Never had a V12 Aston but I did have a V8 Vantage and it was excellent. The 550, though, was peak Ferrari. It’s the best they’ve made and nothing else they’ve done since has come close. It wasn’t as expensive to run as you’d think. Tyres and servicing was pricey, but the general running of the car wasn’t *that* bad. It was cheaper than my mates 355 over the same period. Insurance was cheaper, too. It loved doing big miles and I loved being in it. It also never broke down, which for a Ferrari is more than you can reasonably expect

V12 Vantage, 550 is cool but the Aston goes faster, has a better interior, and sounds better. V8 Vantage sounds better still though.

The only correct answer is 550 Barchetta. But 550 Maranello is a close 2nd. Aston just doesn't cut it.
