Which cool cars are cheaper than you'd expect?
>Ferrari Testarossa prices start at 129k euro
>De Tomaso Pantera prices start at 113k euro
>De Tomaso Pantera group 4 prices start at 149k euro
Of course none of that is cheap but considering that Countach starts at 450k euro, I would expect them to be over 200k.

Countach had a bigger media presence.

It could have been brought in from Florida after the flood, so you could add the electrical system to this price.

only like 10-15 years ago you could get a pantera or testarossa for easily under $100k usd. panteras in fact were like $30-40k for a long time, hardly desirable cars at all

no brand cachet. they were sold at ford dealers and built with a ton of ford parts, including the engine. they were just kinda seen as a glorified frankenstein kit car thing. car collectors in general are incredibly sheepy and hive minded and change their opinions based on the consensus. this is perfectly exemplified by the air cooled 911 hype train that started blowing up in the early 2010s

I must be missing something huge, because the Pantera to me was the exact inverse: a car which I don't get the high price
>common Ford V8
>steel unibody with the least number of parts possible
>small, cramped interior with no emphasis on luxury
>mediocre build quality
It's a great car, don't get me wrong, but I was under the -maybe mistaken- impression that this could've been a cheap sportscar.

Ah so I'm not being stupid. I wish someone made a new Pantera.

I love the sound of old muscle cars and Pantera but I didn't realize they sound similar due to having the same engine. Lol

Pantera maintenance isn't too bad, it's running a ford small block (cleveland if I remember right) so engine maintenance is pretty simple. Electrical is from the 70's, so again not difficult. I'm unfamiliar with the transmission and suspension, but being 70's technology I'm sure people have come up with good work arounds.

Nta but Panteras have a weird reputation for somehow being made out of reliable parts yet unreliable when assembled in a Pantera.

They don't, retard

The M113 is known for its reliability

The big problems are mainly the air suspension

I used to see old Ferrari's for $70k but it seemed like such a huge risk even if you could afford it, I always thought it seemed the type of thing someone would steal and then offload it to you. I think this is why people didn't used to buy classics over $10k or so.

Car from before the 50's are usually pretty cheap, their high point was in the 80's. Pretty cheap considering some models there might be less than 100 left, you see them for $10k or less.

There were a lot of crappy kit cars from the 80's and this may have gotten mixed up with them.

Don't good condition classics usually come with a big folder of papers: logbooks, receipts, etc?
