Shooms. Please. I don't disagree that LPS was better, but it was not for the quality of the light output. Unfortunately current LEDs installations are both wider spectrum and higher luminous output. Even worse when they're poorly installed and they illuminate more than just the road with absurd amounts of spillover. They're beginning to fuck with the wildlife and enable retards that don't know how to turn on their lights and drive around with no tail lights and just drl's to exist.

Today I rode Grom for the first time. It made me giggle.
How does this shitbike manage to feel like a toy and like a real bike at the same time? What I saw in a window reflection looked better than what I saw riding CB650R. It is more nimble than any other bike.
I like that it is almost silent at low revs. Some retard installed arrow exhaust on it and it still was quiet. Crooooosing at 50km/h on it is comfy, no earplugs needed.
But dunno, WOT to just get going and 90km/h limit is not cool, minarelli 125cc bikes like aprilia sx125 are not as anemic.
Having it as an only bike would suck, I occasionally need to go onto highways, sometimes there's just no other way without longer detour.

Modern Dakar bikes are all capped at 450cc. There really isn't a market to sell an enduro wide-ratio 450 with 10 gorillion gallons of fuel and a larger oil sump. The KTM LC8 950/990 were the last real "we only built this to win Dakar" bikes.

back from my one-night trip, did a little over 950 kilometers with the SuMo 701, apart from 60 kilometers autobahn all of it mountain roads, mountain passes, valleys etc.
only nearly crashed 2 times, one dude who took over oncoming traffic with me in the opposing lane, and that thing which i posted, where i skidded along both tires which was completely ignored by everyone here.

the distance was too much, could have done with 150km a day less.
for me, on the 701, 300km a day on it is perfect, everything above 400 sucks.

>beeline moto 2
is great, but you need either a powerbank or a possibility to charge your phone.
the device itselfs has more than enough battery, but my phone got close to being empty first day (about 10 hours ride)
device had about 50% left after that. worked in really bright sun and was easy to navigate with once you got used to it.
pushbuttons work great with gloves etc.
the app itself works alright for planning, but google maps is better.
BUT the "fun route" function works great, it actually gives you nice fun roads that i would have never found myself.

>enduristan blizzard bags
also great stuff, really like them, you can also shoulder them to walk
easy to put on and remove, putting them on takes mabye 2-3 mins.
they did stratch up my side panels a little though, but that was to be expected.

>be Honda
>too cheap to make your 650cc I4 ride-by-wire
>canโ€™t have a bidirectional quickshifter with a cable throttle
>invent e-cringe device that slips the clutch on downshifts like how redditors shift
>force it on every bike for beancounter marketing purposes
>dont let riders permanently disable it

Forgot to say, must keep it truly production based and superstock-esque in the rulebook. Bikes must be off the production line and only modified to ensure they can go the distance across the desert. Otherwise BMW would turn up with an XR with a WSBK motor, people would die and then things would get gay like Pikes Peak and the Nurburgring.

Trex crash bars. They were only like 200 Burger bucks or something.
I did M4 slipons then gutted my cat because I didn't want to buy headers. If I had to do it again, I might just buy headers and go 4 into 1. The other pipe makes chain maintenance a little more difficult.
Definitely get a 2wdw mail in ECU tune if you're getting rid of the cat.

Does full-on drive by wire compensate perfectly (on paper) to the point tjat cylinder balance is still on point after 100k miles (?)

Poor system tuning or maintenance can be excused, itโ€™s when systems are inherently bad that I take issue
For instance, quickshifters (unlike e-clutch) prevent me from doing something I could otherwise do, which is clutchless shift the old fashioned way.
ABS that isnโ€™t switchable prevents me from locking my rear wheel for sick skids

So ride modes, abs, various traction control systems, those are mostly out
But brakes, throttle, fuel vaporization, that can all be done electro mechanically, so itโ€™s okay if itโ€™s done digitally with brake or ride by wire, electronic fuel injection, etc

That being said not having ABS is not a deal breaker as long as your not on highways (Which I hope your not, because the little thing is not happy at 100kph) and it's not raining you should be fine.

Autism is fine but my carbs will still work a century from now with reasonable care like early 1900s car carbs.

I enjoy appropriate technology and have no issues with EFI on my trucks (especially the easily reflashable early LS 4.8/5.3/6.0 computers I can do at home after making a simple harness and buying an OBDX USB adapter) but user control of motorcycle ECUs is not cheap though inserted plug-in modules exist.

OTOH I can reverse lean EPA jetting easily with a set of #60 thru #80 drill bits for the low-speed jets (clamp bit in visegrips then spin jet between fingers, then when it breaks through stop turning and stroke a few times to debur) for less than ten bucks for the bits which I keep. We did many customer bikes that way since the 1980s, all successful because my formula is going one # size larger bit OD than the largest clean SHANK (never measure with the fluted end) which fits the stock low-speed jets.

You can just buy larger main jets or drill with larger bits if want. Needle swaps should follow whatever is proven (Dynojet, a different factory needle or whatever) on someone else's dime).

For a new hyperbike that needs complete electronic everything to be usable, EFI is fine since everything integrates and high performance bike owners replace their rides often enough they don't wear out on the first owner. Computers do eventually die like PC motherboards but I keep spares for my trucks and would if I wanted an EFI motorcycle. My CX 500 Turbobro can no longer get ECUs and he's been a factory Honda mechanic nigh on 50 years.

I've never been stranded by (any) carb because they degrade gracefully. I have been parked by dying truck fuel pumps but they're easy to replace (I anti-seize all my bed and bumper bolts on every truck I own because fuck dropping fuel tanks).

You can change handlebars or bar height using aftermarket risers so find out what's popular on both.

The battery won't mind. If the starters are not evidencing issues that may not either.

Could an ebike fill your niche at least until your income improves? With all the shit they hang on new ICE bikes (which is more shit to break expensively even if you do your own wrenching) that may be the smart choice for commuting. Swappable batteries offer as much range as you care to carry.

Aftermarket clear windscreens are the best of both worlds and detachable as desired.

Some are. I chose to be a competent Caucasian (choose your parents wisely) upstanding G.I. so my HD dealer let me do my first warranty servicing since his mechanic was busy. I used his lift and tools which was cool since I prefer to do all my own wrenching. That worked a second time when my (early, they're much stronger now and made with Kevlar) final drive belt spit teeth at 60,000 miles at another dealer.

Years in advance is a bit of waste, opportunity cost and the gear does expire in effectiveness 5 to 7 years?

That's supposedly helmets, although if one is stored out of the sun/heat/humiditiy etc you'll probably get longer.

I can't see any issue with boots and jackets. I have a 25 year old Frank Thomas cordura shitter than I swapped D3O armour into and it's golden. Leathers are fine if they're not brittle/dried out. Don't leave stuff in the sun long-term (i.e. by a window) and it'll be fine. That goes (especially) for cordura/textile too
