"Why do people even care" is the better question. My brother is something like 5' 6", and he has always bagged extremely attractive women. He's currently dating a girl 16 years younger than him (she's 30-ish), and she's head over heels. She's also something like 5' 9". I'm convinced shorter guys just use their lack of height as an excuse for their mediocre personality.

People online overblow it, and I've also known a guy who was basically a 5'6" gigachad, but overall there definitely is an impact. Studies have shown that taller guys are statistically more successful in a lot of ways, and social media cancer has also gotten women obsessed with height as a number, even though they can't judge it worth a damn in real life - I've had multiple girls INSIST that I'm at least 6' despite actually being 5'9", and on one occasion had enough of an argument with my female roommate (who was 5'2" btw) about it that she insisted on measuring me, and the change in her demeanor when the measuring tape said 5'9" was unbelievable. (Admittedly a lot of that could be her realizing other guys had been lying to her, but still.)

I know I don't get it to the degree shorter guys do, but I live in a very white and Germanic part of the US where 5'9" makes me the shortest guy in the room most of the time and half the women I see are close to my height, and I've worked in blue collar environments where I was literally the only person under 6' so I've definitely gotten a share of it.

What fucking sucks is my mom's side are all 6'2"+ but my mom was so PTSD'd from her dad yelling at her as a kid that she married a manlet.

however he married my 4'11 womanlet mom so i turned out 5'9
my uncle on my dad's side and aunt are 6'0 and 5'5 and my 17 year old cousin is like 6'2 and still growing
moral of the story don't be selfish and marry a womanlet
personally i would rather die alone than marry someone below 5'6 because it subjects your kids (sons) to misery
