I always find manual threads to be bewildering. I've always had a stick for nearly 25 years now yet I'm still seeing new complaints or fundamental misunderstandings of how they work.
And sometimes its just complaints of the most trivial shit. I used to drive a manual Toyota Pickup as a final mile delivery driver in San Francisco but I see people compain their leg gets tired in regular city driving.
Basically every car made since the 60s has synchros in them so unless you're driving something really old or worn-out you don't need to double clutch or get the speeds to perfectly match.

Because 1st gear is still engaged and the engine is trying to overcome a massive power disadvantage trying to spin the tires. In an automatic there is enough slip in the torque converter that it effectively disengages.

Most modern manuals have gates that lock out lower gears when at high speed. If I'm cruising at any speed below 50 I can actually shift to 1st
