i need a reliable car to track on the weekends.
>i have a driver's license but i commute via train as a dirtpoorfag, biding my time until i saved enough money to buy a car.
>i weekly rental karts but i'm thinking of giving that up since i know i'm too old (24) to get into the karting scene seriously. a sports car scene would be much more suitable.
>i'm in the tropical country (Thailand), so component degradation is a real concern; a 10yo car in the US would only survive 5y maximum with minimal servicing here. this narrows my choices to only German automakers, which is fine because i want a reliable car anyway.
>i have to be able to drive it to the track, practice all the racing techniques with it, and then drive home every weekend.
and i think 987.2 is best given these criteria.
>MT or PDK because obviously. leaning towards PDK though
>go-karting feel (?)
>nice wheel-alignment. precise steering, smooth handling
>stiff chassis and nice suspension, giving me direct feedback for steering force and grip. counterbalancing the power steering dampening; none of that cushioned-into-oblivion """muh comfort""" shit.
>manual/hydraulic everything, none of that typical road-car handholding bs
>readily-sourcable/serviceable parts since it's porsche and with a high production count, as opposed to obscure brands.
>perfect for a poorman's porsche bc cheap as dirt, like me xp, in the used market.
das ist gud? what car would you recommend instead, if any?

The Porsche has mcdonalds struts on all fours AND an open differential
It isn't meant to be on the track

unironically a kart with a trailer. Maintenance and consumables are a fucking bitch if you're planning on doing serious track time with very limited funds.

If you want a cheap track/daily car that is extremely reliable and well built then the answer is a C7 Corvette Stringray Z51
It's all aluminium and fiberglass so no rust ever, and people drive them upto 150k miles
Just get a AFM disabler for the automatic

You've already gotten good at rental karts. Seconding >>28570632, get a two stroke TAG or see how alive your four stroke scene is. It's much better racing/dollar than anything involving an actual road car.

why not aftermarket LSD upgrade? doesn't seem too expensive?
high wear rate is a bit concerning still.
i see Guard Transmission, Wavetrac, Kaaz, Quaife, etc.

i'm fine with replacing them every 50km+. hopefully it can survive that at least.

i want to move on to handling ones with differential and higher performance. i think i've fairly grasped attacking corners in karting and low-powered cars like >>28570617 with ideal line, so i feel like stepping up to other, more perf-oriented way of driving.
>>28570636
thanks, i'll look into that shit.

So, a shifter kart. This is the working man's fastest racing vehicle. Shifter karts light their tires up if you're not careful on the throttle. A rental kart has MAYBE 5 hp. A shifter has 36. You have not mastered karting until you have mastered one of these. They are an absolutely brutal experience. Rental karts are a fucking joke in comparison. A TAG is a similar engine but with a single speed transmission and would be a better stepping stone.

is OP retarded, a jungle asian, or just doing the troll? Often they coincide.
>i'm in the tropical country (Thailand), so component degradation.....blah blah blah
so your solution is to find a car from temperate N.Europe because they..uh.... this already makes no sense.
Just get a miata, it's made by competent slants that are familiar with servicing the market of even poorer slants living in sweltering jungles.
bonus is that its cheap-ish and so your frugality of saving will get your ass in a seat much sooner.
also youre a wrenchlet and poorfag so just go have fun and keep karting.
karting is the highest bang for the buck racing that exists on the planet today.

987 Boxster is an absolutely horrible choice dude. They cost the same as a 911 to maintain but they are slow with worse components everywhere.

>open diff on 99% of examples
>mcondalds on all 4
>canโ€™t turn right for too long or the engine explodes
>bore scoring
>AOS
>RMS
>IMS
>AC failures
>Cracked cylinder heads
>water pumps / Thermo
>leaking fuel injectors

All of this in a slow over priced car not meant for the track. Turning on track literally starved the engine of oil.

Get a Miata donโ€™t be a dumbass. The 987 will eat you alive and itโ€™s not even fast.
