I just lost my job, which I was going to quit anyway it was a dogshit minimum wage manual labor job. Should I use the funds I made from it to buy a motorcycle and just ride around aimlessly? I dont even have a car, just a bicycle. I would be able to go on trips plus they are easier on gas so i dont spend as much long term. I would probably just ride around at 3AM nightly listening to tunes. It sound fun

Backs hurt from abuse in manual labor, or poor posture in a desk job. I'm borderline underweight and mine will punish me if I don't sit right. Rider height vs what the bike was designed for is also a factor. Taller guys will prefer handlebars to clip ons.

Hey OP used my bike for a /dbt/ thread, fun. That was back in 2020 when I rode through the Mojave national preserve. That picture specifically was at the Mojave desert lava tube. The last bit of the trail leading up to it was littered with pieces of vehicles that got ripped apart by the lava rocks. It wee a pretty rough ride, not technical at all, just jarring.

As a proud KLR owner KLR650s are indeed capable of being touring sluts, hut most people get them simply because they’re utterly unkillable for the least amount of money. They DO rattle and shake like hell so be aware of that going in. That said they’re also amazing machines and half the reason to get a KLR is that there are so many of them out there being kept alive with duct tape and JB weld that if anything ever goes wrong with it there WILL be a $20 fix that can be done at the side of the road.

This is a bit of a worry, my last bike I'm replacing was a F650GS which are known for being on the more comfortable side for these thumpers. Got a mate with a KLR I'm badgering to let me borrow it for a couple days to see how bad it is.

buddy got a first gen klr650 and said he couldn’t get it to wheelie outside of 1st and asked if id try it. Klx will pop up in 3rd so I figured it would be easy on the klr.
I tried across the rev range but that bike would not come up in 2nd for me more than a few inches. The seat shape prevented me from sitting far back and he’s got a lowering link, and the fuel tank is fucking huge which doesn’t help.
I figured the 650 single would be torquey but it just felt like a sluggish turd.
Are the dr650s comparable to the klr? Been wanting to get something bigger so I can ride further to get to trails but also want to rip whols and cause trouble

they also run hot - i installed an oil cooler, theres a lot of kits online to make sure its running a little cooler.
also, make sure you run it with enough oil, the camlobes and rockers tend to get fucked if run too hot or with too little oil.
i had to rework the camshaft and get new rockers on mine

How retarded would it be to buy a classic (late 40s-early 60s) BSA, Triumph, Ariel or AJS motorbike? I have always wanted one and I will be in a good place to purchase one in just a little over a year's time.

Also mobility is a big factor in riding these things. if you got issues with joints or being in an uncomfortable hunched over position these things are not gonna be fun.

Are you buying it for something to wrench on when you're bored or something to actually ride?
Anonymous No.28573684 [Report]

Wrench and ride, but not daily. BSA or Triumph would be my go-tos, possibly Norton as well, but I see less of them for sale. I see quite a few AJS bikes for sale too, but I need to know more about them first, spare parts could be a bitch for them.

The bikes would need to come from the UK, but I have family there and one of them is an innkeeper, so it is not that bad.

This pass was my first time doing proper un-paved, the mutant where fine but where the road was less packed dirt and gravel and was proper rock mountain road it was still kinda terrible on 17 and with such hard suspensions, i basically did the whole pass standing on the pegs but i must admit it was fun!
if i had the dual sport instead of the super moto version of this bike it would have been a breeze i'm sure.
>I'm thinking of buying a cheap dualsport or low cc adv to go some gravel roaded mountainpasses
maybe you can find an old dr350 for dirt cheap? i don't think you can get a Beta Alp up where you are that would be a nice little bike for that desu but i guess if you can get a proper husky or ktm with a nice discout, why not?

>It has 7hp
>Its top speed is 77kph
>It takes 7 mins to hit that speed
>It costs $77 to Insure
>It cost 7 dollars to road tax
>It takes 7 mins of kick starting to get it going
>New buyers give it 7 seconds before looking at another bike
>Dealers give it 7 days before sending it back
>It takes 7 weeks before its scrapped and recycled

Okay completed my test rides today of the street Bob and the v7, and the nightster, and I would say the v7 was my narrow preference. However, the Harley dealer also let me test a street Bob when I mentioned I was cross shopping, and that was way more fun than the v7 if I’m being honest. I don’t know if it was 8 thousand dollars more fun, but now I’ve got a lot to think about if i want to look for a used bigger Harley or go with the v7 or go with the nightster for looks and sound over the v7s win in the fun department

If you're getting a loan anyway, it sounds like you want a Softail. If you're paying cash, the Guzzi will be probably the best handling, the Nightster would be the fastest. If you want the Softail chassis, try to find a Low Rider S if you want more speed/lean angle.

Factory is LED. The JGSDF 250s would've been halogen. It occurred to me after posting that I can probably just put a rectangular frame in front of my factory headlight and have it look close enough, especially with blacked out mesh.

The only other models in the current lineup that I think are reasonably good looking are the heritage classic and the road king, but then I don’t really like bags - I guess that can be removed. My local HD was kind of annoying to schedule the nightster test ride at, but then dropped the street bob test on me, so I’m hoping they’ll let me test other models as well with less run around.
I suppose also another advantage of Harley’s in America is it’d be easy for me to take any old bike and make it look any old way, at least relatively easy
