It would have been a whole fucking lot better if they hadn't saddled it with the Impreza engine. It's a weird shape, doesn't respond to mods well, and more or less pushes the owner to replace it ASAP.

It's a good fun car. I had one for a few years. But eventually I needed a more "adult car" . Sadly the 86's image is forever tainted as it's widely known as a car for teenagers trying to look cool, and nearly every one I see is riced out with some hideous mod

Everyone talks about car mods but I look at literally any mod for my car and it's like $1000 minimum. I can never see that and not think "that could be $1000 closer to something faster than what I'm driving now"

That's a good mentality to have. To add to that, most mods (ESPECIALLY power) require a multitude of equally expensive mods lest you destroy the car. People who try to make a supercar out of a platform that clearly wasn't designed to accommodate the associated mechanical stress with parts that are only expected to last for a race day or two are a special kind of stupid.

That's the issue though, most slow cars are built to go slow and will literally fall apart if you go FI, even if the engine itself can handle it. $1000 turbo kits are actually $5-10k total drivetrain rebuilds (in parts alone) if you want your car to survive more than a single pull
