I used to drive an '03 Eclipse Spyder. Super slow, but man, it could just weave through traffic. With the top down, it felt like the back of my car was right at my wallet.

With the top up however, I was basically blind as fuck in regards to what was going on behind me.

The millennials on this board gave up on their dreams of being like this, bought crossovers, and now LARP as enthusiasts while calling this "boyracer"

Yoshida-san's Porsche club was the most famous, but people in MNC drove GT-R's and RX-7's and 280Z's in the mix too. One of the most notable examples actually being a Nissan exec who drove his own personal GT-R, and whenever he felt like things weren't up to snuff with the competition, he'd take it to the factory and have the boys whip up stuff to make it faster lol.
He's the head of NISMO today.
In the 80's the fastest guys around the block were actually the 'American Car Club', since hot rodding tuning and personal vehicle modification in general was already a 'done thing' in that subculture, so there were some real beasts based on classic muscle car chassis' like Firebirds and Trans-Ams. A lot of 'racing clubs' were break-aways from this in fact.
