Those Suzukis they get in India are based and I'm tired of pretending they're not. When I was in India a few years ago it seemed like half the cars were Suzukis.

Aren't even Indians complaining about the safety of those things?
I suppose it's nice that Suzuki's found a market for plain and simple cars.

I'm in Hungary, where Suzuki is also really popular. I'm picking up this Swift tomorrow, and Thursday it's going to the mechanic for a complete service, new tires, lift (SX4 shocks and springs), and skid plate. I'm super excited. It will be my first Suzuki.

Swifts are nice, I've heard the suspension can be weak for highway driving unless you get the sport but overall they have a good reputation for being cheap, reliable and fun.

Thanks! This little guy drives nice! The engine is super smooth. It feels very well put together. I took it down some sandy backroads and tractor paths on the way home, and it was very happy even in the deeper sand. The body is rough, and it definitely needs some maintenance-- at least one wheel bearing is noisy, brakes need a bleed, clutch pedal is mushy-- but it's going to be a rally raid car, so I was planning to do a bunch of upfront preventative maintenance anyway. Also, it was only $1200. Anyway, I'm very impressed with the car already, and I'm sure it's going to be even better after it's all prepared.

I wonder how abysmal the build quality is in those, knowing the average street shitter IQ.

They weren't that bad and literally millions were sold, but there are some common issues with things such as rust and issues with the brakes locking up. Some earlier models with British built engines could suffer from overheating, as was the case with the Morris Oxford, which it was based on, but this was resolved with Indian developments of the engines, as well as their ultimate replacement with Isuzu engines.

I would also recommend for you to check out Force Motors and Mahindra's automotive division as they also have some very interesting vehicles.
