to anons who live in HOA's; how restrictive are they on you working on your car?
Anonymous No.28581727 >>28582064 >>28582110
I think I live in a HOA area, but am not quite sure.
I do whatever I want on my yard, no one has said anything about it yet.
The only complaint I've gotten thus far is when I drove past this one house that is a kindergarten of sorts and my car lost spark nearby. Got my car running somewhat and drove it back to my yard, the old hags came to my yard to complain that I was bothering the kids or some shit, I told them that it's a public road that I am allowed to use, but my yard is private property that they came to uninvited, that's trespassing.

Some people tried to form an HOA at my rural lake village town, and the opinion of HOAs being so negative, they were overwhelmingly told to fuck off. The interested parties instead formed a homeowners "co-op" with zero actual power, but they instead organize free labor for 'troubled' properties. Removing dead trees or cleaning up brush. They approached me about my 3 acre lot with waist high grass offering to help me "get it under control" and i politely told them it i was growing it to cut for hay in the summer, as I've done every year for the past decade since I bought the lot. They said oh ok and haven't bothered me since.

They're nice and helpful because they have no leverage, but I'm sure if they wielded any legal authority at all they'd be little tyrants about it.

my HOA is mostly to keep browns out. browns like the ones in this thread who would make their front yard look like shit because they're lazy hoarding fucks and ruin property values or play their shit polka music until 2 am.
my HOA enforces noise ordinances and doesn't let immigrants tour houses that go up for sale in our development. that's well worth the price for me.

I'm whiter than you could ever hope to be and would probably live under a bridge before living in an hoa. If you're lucky enough to have one that barely enforces the rules that's one thing, but most are just run by power hungry no life faggots that will literally go house to house with a ruler measuring your grass to see if it's a 1/2 too long so they can write you up.

Not too bad, where are you looking? Desantis recently cucked a lot of things that HOA would get people for. Kind of necessary since FL is the HOA capital of the country. Overall, my HOA is relatively reasonable, but lazy in their work. Basically they drive around once every 7-8 months and get EVERYONE for any little infraction they can
>Everyone bitches for a week
>Everyone powerwashes their driveway
>Cuts grass
>Trims trees
>etc
And then the neighborhood looks good for a few months. They HOA never follows up on any of the infractions, more like a post-it note to clean up your yard or whatever. Overall I don't like being told to do something on my property as it's always something I know that needs done, I don't need someone to tell me to fix it. But overall the neighborhood does look better for the next few months. Never any issue to work on a car, but you can't have it in pieces for months at a time.

Some people, such as my father, WANT to be in an HOA and specifically look for that when buying a house. They don't want pickups parked in the yard, they don't want cars on blocks in the driveway, they don't want the purple house with the blue tarp on the roof across the street, etc, and all the other rules don't bother them because they're not going to do any of that stuff anyway.

This is only a problem in extremely low income poverty stricken shitholes, you won't run into that in any neighborhood if you aren't poor regardless of if you have an hoa or not.

Mine's not too bad. Its rules are mostly to avoid a shade tree mechanic business and unsightly "project" cars in driveways. A couple guys got busted for leaving their jalopies to sit in the street, after a couple warnings one guy aired up the tires and moved it to his driveway, cleaned it up, and put a for sale sign on it. Other dude had a wrecked jetta leaking oil, HOA sent him a notice 2 weeks after it happened to get the wreck out of his driveway. Another dude shoved his project car into the garage and its been covered with a tarp in the garage for 3 years.

You don't have to have a nice car, it just can't look like shit for most HOAs.

Are you a homeowner or just a renter of a home that maybe part of an HOA?
If you are a homeowner you should know if you are in an HOA or not, especially of the fact that you have to pay monthly/yearly dues for that HOA and its usually a big chuck of change that you should notice imo and a reminder that you are paying for that HOA "service".
Otherwise if you are just a renter, then yeah I wouldn't expect you to know if it is part of an HOA or not as that is the homeowner's responsibility.

One house I was unfortunate enough to live across from the hoa president, 80 year old woman. She didn't have an issue with me but would always come talk to me to bitch and moan about the neighborhood when I went out to get my mail.
>oh my god, can you believe (people down the street)? They were parked on the street all night across from each other! When I was driving home a car was coming the other way and I had to pull over and wait for them to go before I could! They'll be getting a citation for this one, those darn hooligans! I'm going to bring it up at the next meeting and see if we can outlaw street parking entirely!
>and those kids walking home from school, they always walk next to my house! The little hooligans have no respect! I'm calling the city and seeing if they can put up some kind of fence or something! (we lived next to a greenbelt with an elementary school down the street, so kids would use it as a shortcut to get home. They literally never did anything but walked by)
Shut the fuck up, Carol. I do not care.

Another house I got 4 citations for having oil spots in my driveway. There was a tiny spot from the previous renters. I told my landlord the HOA was bitching about something and they told me to just ignore them and throw them away.

It's a private contractual agreement between all buyers of land in a single sub-division. The stipulations vary from contract to contract, but usually it's things like yard must be green and clean, no cars parked on road, no unregistered shitboxes visible etc.

It's originial intent is to keep riff raff out and incentivize, via non-compliance fines, owners to keep their house and yard in good shape for the benefit of everyone.

HOAs are a contractual agreement between the property developer and the homeowners that are attached to your property's deed. It's attached to that land forever until 100% of property owners agree to dissolve it.

It's all legally binding and protected, you can't just tell them to fuck off without incurring fees. Fees that if unpaid will get attached to your house should you ever decide to sell.

the HOA board of directors is who watches the HOA. They aren't all powerful, there are federal/state laws that dictate the extent of their power, but as long as they're operating under the scope of the law and within the confines of the bylaws you signed when purchasing/renting the house, there's nothing you can really do.
If enough people are displeased with a policy, you can put forward a notion to change whatever the policy is and have the board vote on it.

to put it simply, HOAs are tiny governments for housing developments.

I know a lot of these anons are hating on HOAs, but mine is pretty great. It's not jus t"some little government", it comes with additional amenities. My hoa is $17/mo and we have a community gym, community pool, two dog parks, and two playgrounds. Most of the hate for HOAs come from reddit-types like we're seeing in this thread. The hoas near me that are $250/mo are million dollar homes that have boat access to tampa bay

meanwhile in reality, the median in Tampa is $614/month and ranked #1 in the country for price hikes compared to the year prior

House. And the pool isn't always full of people, so it's honestly really nice. I'd post pics if it wouldn't dox me. I will say, I do live in a more rural area though, so it is a little more affordable

I like most of my neighbors but not enough to share a really small volume of water with them. They aren't family. Same can be said about the air and the equipment in the gym. If you like pools, why don't get a house with a private one? Personal gym is even simpler and cheaper, probably more convenient too. I mean it's the question of hygiene in the first place.

I bet they share them too. Probably pay for a small bus to ride in it together to a nearest city, since they are rural.

It seems pretty disenguous to look up Tampa specific properties. Living in a major city, especially one like Tampa that has many waterfront districts, is going to be more expensive. But continue to rage Google and post what the AI feeds you.

The kids like it, and gives us something to do. DeSantis cucked hoas like a year ago, so I don't think they can enforce street parking shit any more. It used to be only allowed to park on one side of the street(non mailbox side). But that's not a thing anymore. The one thing that I absolutely used to hate about the hoa was they didn't allow commercial vehicles, so small business owners couldn't park their work vehicles in the neighborhood, or had to be in the garage, and that was fucking bullshit. But that's gone now too.

My next house will absolutely have its own pool. When I bought this one, it wasn't in the budget, but in Florida you can use it all year round.

nigger YOU mentioned Tampa specifically??
The average hoa fee nationwide is $250, your $17/month is on an absolutely insanely low end.

I understand your confusion, I mentioned boat access to Tampa Bay, not living in Tampa. In this screenshot, virtually everyone here has boat access to Tampa bay, you can see that it goes all the way from Tampa, down to the Bradenton area. Most of the area between is pretty rural.

I see, apologies friend
the point still stands that $17/month is insanely low and well below average. Being in a rural HOA is probably more just to keep niggers at bay, suburban HOA is about soccer moms having power since they have none in their normal lives.

I have lived in a few european towns for 20 years now. Other than when I was starting out and living in an appartment filled with browns literally I have never seem people just trashing their house / street. There is no HOA here nor do you pay a contribution to one. Literally stop being poor and all of these issues go away unless you happen to meet a rare rich psycho.
