Probably comfy since you don't have to worry about it at all.

Couldn't tell you since I take care of my cars.

I drove one for a few years, and the experience is pretty much praying every morning for some idiot on their phone to rear end you so you can get a big insurance payout.

being hyperaware of how fucking slow everyones reaction time is in traffic, watching the coolant gauge climb as suddenly everyone is uncharacteristically not in a hurry to go to work or home. going the speed limit (as fast as it fucking goes) in the right lane on a 6 lane interstate, one after another some retarded female is performing a colonoscopy on your car with her brights on at 3pm waiting for you to speed up, refusing to ever pass you. looking at other people who break down and block lanes of traffic with disgust because they were somehow completely unprepared despite driving similar/worse pieces of shit

unless you are poor and suicidal your old shitbox has regenerated all of the worn components within a couple years of owning it and it is now in the peak physical shape of shitbox

based as fuck, you dont have to worry about anything happening to it. getting shot by an angry nigger is a definite possibility if you have a blown out 2nd synchro, subhumans cant comprehend the idea of a 1-2 shift taking more than 200ms.

>>28583020
this
being nice to the shitbox lets it naturally regenerate health

You gain an ascended form of freedom knowing anyone that touches your car will automatically take more financial loss than you no matter the severity.

You only need to worry about tweaker trying to jack your car, nobody else wants it.

Every time you commute it's an adventure, there is inherit thrills riding around a clapped out jalaopy with every bolt ready to fly off at any second.

You save so much time not needing to keep the outside clean, and if you make the interior spotlessly clean you'll unironically impress women passengers by signaling rough external, clean interior vibes.

My first car was a 78 dodge aspen and I'm eternally thankful for that car through highschool. A lot of fun memories and intense situations on some them drives

How much do you value the car? Is it sentimental to you like mine? It's shit. Because you want the car to survive but know it's got limited time before damage is irreversible.

Is it just to get from point A to B?
>>28583000
Is right when you have a bad head gasket like mine. Long as you're moving, it's fine. Stop and go traffic is deadly.

>>28583335
And this. If you don't care about the car, people avoid you like you are a maniacal driver. Yet if you drive a nicer car, they seem to be happy to ding your doors, scratch your bumper, and act like you did them wrong. Picking the right shitbox makes a big difference OP.

Picrel is current floor pan on mine

And sometimes fixing a problem will break something else. Especially when rust is involved.

I used to own a rusty beater e36 kinda like the one in op's pic. It was very solid mechanically (never even leaked oil) but rust got to it. One day while driving I felt it moving sideways in a very eery way. Stopped the car, checked it and saw my fucking rear subframe on the ground. One of of the mounting points rusted through and literally got torn out of the body. I was heaetbroken. I really got used to that car and had spent on it way more than I should have. It was ugly, slow, incredible noisy and uncomfortable but it had that mad max shitbox charm. I mean you could have tried welding that shit together but there was so little clean metal left it would be like 10 times what the car was worth. Would have kept going for a looong time if not for the body giving up. I avoid rusty cars like the plague since then. Never worth it.

it's both a marvel and nightmare

Y.ou don't have to care about paintjob. You don't care about parking lot bumper cars. Old beather with 4 spd slushbox is perfect commuter. Just don't be a bitch and change radiator so it won't overheat in traffic. Seats are comfy, cushy. Car is driver oriented with no screens or start-stop systems.

You just get in. Start the engine. Select D and just get rolling.

The nightmare part is that you are afraid of far roadtrips. You keep worrying if you have everyting in your toolbox for roadside repair. You worry if your buddy with tow rig will be avalable today if shit hits the fan. Also the crashes. On one hand you hope somebody rear ends you and you get money from insurance. On the other you know that bigger collision can be deadly so you avoid them

>>28583000
i have no idea how but this is somehow true. I worked in place where I commuted throu highways (85mph) mixed with sudden traffic jams with stop and go traffic and it was a nightmare for car

Now I commute via sideroads and car is happier than ever

What killed my EG Civic in the end.
Rear control arm mounting point.
>>28586301
No, would totally drive such EG Civic again. What shitboxes are bad is stop and go traffic in my opinion, mostly because you get agitated and irritated from driving in such traffic in the first place and then every fault that car has gets amplified multiple times in your mind.

I got 800euro payout for my shitbox. Or i could leave it at the garage and they would give me 950 euros.

Small crash against a van that just turned on the road so i could stop intime.

So i took it home and hammered the hood somewhat straight and kept her going.

Pretty fun, as I recall. I drove a '76 Cherokee in HS and part of college. The fender flares were a case of Tetnus, waiting to happen. Everyone was afraid to park or walk near it.
