This shit is 946ml but the manual is asking for 2.0lt (buying two jugs). What happens if you underfill transmission fluid by the equivalent of 0.1 qt?

you should be completely fine
that said I would just buy 3 bottles then use the 3rd bottle over the life of the car to prove the extra .1l
Anonymous No.28583824
I don't know anything about auto trannies but it's fine for manual. Usually you check the level by sticking your finger into the check hole which isn't that accurate anyway. I would buy another bottle though just in case, gear oil is pretty cheap.

stop being a zionist. fill the tranny to the brim.

2L is probably a dry fill, 2 quarts should be fine but I would buy 3 to be safe.

I bought a used car a few years ago and went to change the transmission fluid. Calls for around 70oz of fluid and I only drained 28oz out. Still drives fine now.

does your transmission not have a fucking dipstick?
Anonymous No.28583917
>>28583854
I had that happen too but the transmission actually shifts better and into the powerband now. I didn’t know that it was low on fluid but it really does shift better when everything is up to the fluid level.

The car is still filled with factory / break-in fluid, from what I've read it's probably filled with metal shavings and not worth the risk

Just do what >>28583807 said and get an extra jug. It's also useful for topoffs if your car burns a bit of oil (very common for new cars, especially ones with FI engines)
Anonymous No.28583940
>>28583929
Unless you drain and fill that thing 5 times there's still going to be some metal shavings in there. Some trace shavings aren't going to hurt a manual tranny.

Okay, little protip my friend
Your transmission has a dipstick. Google
[Your car] transmission dipstick, or just look around the engine bay for one.

Keep filling the transmission untill fluid comes our of the fill port.
I doubt you can get 2 quarts in unless the trans is brand new.
Power Fill tools makes it easy.

It has its own drain plug.

Nice automatic bro.
Anyways, I've owned 5 manual cars.
Not a single dipstick on any of them.

I've built race cars from scratch.
Built tube chassis
Wired entire cars from scratch.
Designed my own suspension.
Welded up my own floater axle.
Assembled my own brake kits from old NASCAR calipers.
Only thing I've never done was rebuilt was an automatic transmission.
Because I don't own any.

Should I put 0w-16 engine oil in my manual trans?
It calls for Dex III atf. 0w-16 is very similar in viscosity and should be more protective.

But what is "the right fluid"?
I doubt it's dex III. Factories just use ATF because it works well enough, and they don't have to inventory a separate fluid for the 1 in 500 MT cars they sell.

Just make up the difference with water. It will lather up the oil and clean your internal parts better like washing your hands in the sink with soap.

Based, i picked up 5hp doing this on my miata thanks to the superior friction modifiers in slideway oil, it's a super old boomer trick that actual works.

Yes, anon, Subaru was based for putting a dipstick in the Forester. But that doesn't mean every other car has one. Quit being a FAGGOT because your outlier defies the norm.

The main issue with slideway oil is that it gels up incredibly fast in the cold.
I used a gallon of slideway oil in my trugg because the fucker burned through everything else I had on hand, worked well enough until the weather went below freezing.
I also poured it straight into the tank and used it as fuel.

Just buy the extra quart op, yes 90% of it will go unused, but do fill to spec. Usually they say to fill until it starts to leak out from the fill plug.
At best you'll have some left over oil for other things

And if you are buying that super expensive redline oil, if your really frugal, you can top off with cheaper oil. Don't use old oil, it's gonna be full of metal and your just contaminating your nice new oil.

Pour in half a quart of the new fluid, and rotate the transmission by hand or at idle with the drive wheels in the air, and then let it drain for 20 minutes. Sorta like a flush.

redline definitely isn't cheap, but i love their mt90 oil. made the shifts in my w58 slightly but noticeably smoother compared to the oem gl4 oil.
