>Helping people is nice. And you can teach and learn things
that's the difference between someone wanting "help" and wanting you to do something for them. the other anons essentially said that helping is fine, which you seemed to miss, or misunderstood.
I've done a brake job for a buddy, who tried to help, very poorly, but he was trying, and wanted to learn. he's also not a fucking freeloader, which is the crux of the issue here. no one I care enough to help expects you to just do shit for them, or at the very least has readily helped me with shit I have limited knowledge on when I'm in a similar situation. or you help them once with something basic, and never do it again if they're a cunt that sits on their ass and watches you work. live and learn
