even with the premium + performance pack, this is still $7K less while being more practical and drives the same. it's no wonder the 86 twins are outselling the mx5 by a massive margin

Don't buy a new one, they depreciate really fast and also it's a car that's meant to be thrown around so you will rough it up right away.

T. wish I had waited a bit for all the used ones to get listed this spring, would've saved me like $15k.

it's 300lbs more. and yeah, if you want a convertible, there's only one option. but what if I don't care about convertible and just want an good handling, affordable 2-seater as a second car? these are literally the only (new) options

most mx5 buyers care more about lightness and good handling than it being a convertible. a muscle car isn't even in the same class as the mx5

For 42 grand id rather have a vintage sports car. There's a LOT of really nice cars that won't lose value in the next 5-10 years like a new Miata will. Plus people cope about driving experience and speed not mattering but they'll cry about old convertibles being slow. Which is it?

for 42k you can stop being a pussy and get something like an old e36 and turn it into a track monster, that is if you're not a fgt who pays other people money to do stuff for you.

hell, even a f80 m3 can be had for that price.

Yeah, I've found a couple private party sales at $30k and a couple dealerships also at $30k. Offering $20k will just get me blocked.
>non-m can be had
What are the specific differences? I don't want a convertible, I want a manual transmission. If I could find one for $20k and under 100k miles I'd probably buy it.

To be fair, just having a hard top is an $8000 option essentially. And if you're paying $38k for a car, whats another $4k when its financed over several years?

They're pretty even in price if you include all the performance parts - upgraded anti-roll bars, strut brace, exhaust, shifter, etc.

Which is what OP did to make his photo, he selected all the options. And this $43k gr86 doesn't even have ALL the options selected.

they're both spec'd out to be equivalent. you can't compare a soft top to a coupe. soft tops are more fragile and need to be in a garage or they'll eventually be destroyed by weather. they're both also configured to have upgraded brembos. random price gouging dealer options like anti-roll bars and strut braces don't make a meaningful difference in everyday driving, but brakes do

can be had for low 20s, look harder.

the non-m does not come with a lsd but you can easily ad one. the motor is n52 vs the m's s54, about 80 hp difference. suspension and brakes are slightly different but it dont matter when you are going to get aftermarket shit any way. the n52 is cheaper to maintain and if you really needed more power, there are supercharger kits for the n52. chasis and tranny is the same aside from some slight ratio change in the final drive to slow the non-m down a bit so the m owners dont get assblasted.
