Car brands that are irredeemably dogshit thread
we all know what brands are good, Fords, Volvos, Toyotas. even if they make mistakes (cough cough mach-e cough) they still aren't complete garbage...

what's a brand that is irredeemable in your eyes? I'll start with Peugeot, Citroen and Renault.

Renault is much better than the other 2 and has had great runs. It was dogshit imo in the early 2000s but it had nice cars like the talisman recently

Tesla. They have killed what the meaning of a good car is and now everyone is trying to copy them to be "hip". Also modern Mercedes.

In my country, they have a bit of a reputation for wearing out quickly, and sometimes not getting through their first inspection (at 4 years) because all the joints, hinges, bearings and whatever are fucked.
They also used to have lots of electric gremlins, or so I've heard.
I suppose if they're already known as a dogshit brand, they may have been bought mostly by people who weren't going to maintain them anyway.

Their recent cars do look much better, and might actually be beating the Germans in some ways, though at this point that's like competing in the special olympics.

Yea, until they shat on everything they built in their rallying years by making trash cars from the year 2000 onwards

It makes me angry... I'd go as far to say I'm racist against France for the shit the French do...

>couldn't win a war unless it was against itself or their military led by a midget
>their employment rates are shit
>they suck at making cars and piss on their legacy for it

But the most unforgivable thing is that they're just fucking assholes who act like they're better that everyone

Picrel is my reaction to any frenchie in existence

Actually, I drive a modern Honda and I have included on the list because of the following:

>Needs a new head gasket every 7-10k miles
>Third windshield fluid pump
>On third fuel filler cap
>Second TPMS sensor
>Car now has a misfire at idle (not spark plugs)

At 60k miles (and gasket number 10), I would have expected some things to need changing (such as a head gasket), but the frequency at which these happen is too often, in my opinion, for it to be considered "good". I learned the hard way, that it is not the 1990s anymore.

Before you ask what I consider reliable...
>Older Volvo (never looked at a nu-Volvo to tell you about how bad they are)
>Older GM (up until ~2000 for North American cars, ~2005 for trucks and SUVs) Nu-GM is shite too, but before the Honda I had a S10 Blazer for almost 15 years and it needed very little work done.

>Skoda (Had one as part of a trip around Europe I did a few years ago, it was comfortable and held up well)
The older Skodas were pretty reliable as they were made from relatively robust old VAG parts with the problems already resolved, and didn't have as many gizmos to break as a top trim Audi or something.
I still see Skoda Octavias and Fabias of the 2 previous generations around here, and they must be holding up a lot better than old French cars, because those have almost entirely disappeared.

The latest Skoda cars use tech identical to VWs & SEATs of the latest gen, which is to say they're probably not as reliable.
At least one bonger car site rated new-gen VW, Skoda and SEAT family cars the least reliable cars of their kind. They seem to have all the problems, ranging from spurious fault codes to software bugs bricking dashboards, to cracks leaking coolant, to gearbox mechatronic failures (if you live in a small country, good luck even finding a shop that can diagnose that shit) and worse.

Oh well. The loaner car was a 3rd Gen Octavia. I would have loved if they sold them in the US, but VAG is only interested in Audi and Porsche stateside. VW itself is selling Mexican built cars and the quality is even worse than what you guys get, unfortunately.

>3rd gen Octavia
Yeah, that's the previous gen model. It's a pretty common sight around here. I think it shares quite a bit of tech with the Golf Mk7, which may have been where the Golf peaked.
There also was an RS version with an EA888 similar to what you might find in a Golf R or some Audis.

The latest one doesn't look too bad, but it comes with VW's terrible new infocrap, and seems like it's having the same problems as everything on VW's post-2020 platforms.
Shame, I kind of liked Skoda.

Is that just for Europe?
Guess I can understand them not wanting to develop a new subcompact by themselves. Not much profit in them, especially with the new emissions limits and penalties. Toyota's hybrid powertrain is just efficient enough to avoid large fines.

You must be doing something wrong, no way a car needs 10 head gasket replacements in 60k miles due to a design defect and the company isn't issuing mass recalls.

Not to my knowledge. I never let the engine go above 2k RPMs and never below 800 (as this is when the misfire starts happening).

Citroรซn at least usually has pretty nice interiors and they offer, or at least offered, a very smooth ride.
Admittedly I haven't owned a Citroรซn since the XM and I haven't driven one since the very first C6 models.
The C6 at least drove ridiculously well, like holy shit you are not getting a ride like that in anything short of a rolls royce.
No, your gm whatever or toyota shitbox could never hope to compete, even the toyota century plays second fiddle.
