The rat fears the categorization of the world, and tries to disingenuously act against the natural recognition of patterns, because he sees *himself* as something execrable - he instinctively feels, if people are 'allowed' to simply, openly cleave reality at the joints, he will not make the 'cut'.
When he looks at the trash of the world, defectors, parasites, and villains, he sees fellow travelers; he identifies with it. And so if judgement that is natural to the world is 'normalized', that can lead to only one thing: "I've been 'found out'".
