While technically a repair, it's more in the realm of a modification.
I ditched the mechanical water pump in my car for a fancy Davies&Craig electric waterpump that set me back about 500 bucks.

Body-off-frame overhaul of my old jeep. Included swapping the entire drivetrain with that of an old big block Ford, about a foot of lift, stretching both frame and body a for longer to lengthen the wheelbase, mostly new interior.
Diy'd the whole way, I'm already in it for over $9k and it'll probably never be all the way done as I'm always wanting to do just a bit more. Fun though.

I bought a boomers cruiser that the boomer swapped from 4 on the floor to a 3 speed auto.
I swapped a 5 speed into it.
It cost me $4k just in parts in pre-covid money.
The fat guy in flip flops from roadkill has a pretty good video on his YouTube channel on how to do this.
>t. Spent two nights under a late 40's GM product dial indicating my shaft and hammering offset pins.
>I didn't know that will be needed when I started

I had to do a full swap last year. Very expensive. Nearly 40 grand all said and done.

Repair? A toss up between rebuilding a close ratio 5 speed gear box ( including buying the whole transmission) for ~600 bucks.
And an engine swap to a newer motor that had been sitting on a shelf for the last 25 years which ended up being ~400 bucks + 200ish for gaskets all around.
I have always had dirt cheap cars.

you know you can just stab the transmission in, it's not the end of the world if it's not in perfect alignment
