I hate that every E38 came with an M62 engine, except for the first production year, 1995, when it still had the superior M60 engine.

It's pretty much mandatory to do the Timing Chain guides, for every E38 740il and E39 540i.

Anonymous No.28587746 >>28587762

The V12 750il is a different beast in itself. If you own one of these, you likely have a 850csi in stick shift, with it's hard-to-service Getrag 560G.

Argubly, the V8 M60/2 engines equipped cars have the 420G trans, which is overall easier and cheaper to source.
Anonymous No.28587762 >>28587767 >>28588883
>>28587746
The 420G is nowadays nigh impossible to find parts for, just like it was back then too.
Also the 560G is a massive piece of shit as in physically, it's fucking humongous and weighs like 300 kilos. Almost as heavy as an adult American.

I would argue the Getrag 420G is at least plentiful enough from all the fucked E39 540i's, to have 1-2 spares for $2-3k each, if you're wanting long-term ownership. Direct enough swap, if your first 420G breaks, and you can reuse parts.

We could go balls to wall, spend $5k for a Nissan CD009 trans swap. Or go Full Retard on a $10k bulletproof T56 Magnum trans swap. PMC Motorsports, and other companies make bellhousing adapter plates.

But we're talking about attainable dream cars, here. Can have E38 740il easily for less than $10k, for a really nice one.

M50>M30
I'll take the M50, M52, M54 any day over an M30b35. Cracked blocks and blown headgaskets are common enough on M30s, that I'll never touch one. Even the stock G260 manual trans are known to break under stock power of an M30.

Don't even get me started on E90/60 N5x engines.

Brother, the 420 and 560 are Getrags.
You can actually get parts for the ZF manuals, ot sure if they're official or aftermarket, but they're there.
Again you can get those 6 speed ZF boxes off E60s for example for like 300 bucks in yurop, they're really common as manual swaps for everything here from dyno queens, track cars to drifters.

Not wanting RHD has nothing to do with the type of engine, I just don't want it because RHD in a LHD country sucks. If you actually drive the car in the twisties, you get over the novelty of RHD really quickly. I have driven a RHD E30 wagon extensively (it was cheap, LHD models are FAR more expensive). Right hand corners suck visibility wise, but what is worse is being in a left turn lane with opposing traffic. Can't see jack shit in a small LHD car, it's worse in a RHD. At least toll booths barely exist anymore though.

It's the poor person's dream "I made it" car despite not actually being a symbol of truly making it. You don't actually give a shit about cars and never will.
You read some bullet points on the app you saw on it, that's why you mention random bullshit like
