why no hybrid sports car with BOOST BUTTON
imagine a sports car, maybe a miat
>miat has a small pack of batteries under floor to help 50/50 weight distribution
>miat has extra electric motor like honda IMA systems
>miat uses the electric motor for braking
>miat when braking is loading a "boost" gauge
>after around 5 minutes of driving boost is ready
>you press button and your miat has extra 100hp for 30 seconds
>after that the electric system has to recharge and motor has to cool down

just think about it like IRL boost system from vidja games

just imagine motorsports with such a cool system

this sort of exists with the elantra N, there's an overcharge button, its not electric though

Doesn't formula 1 already do that?

It would be shit and make the car much heavier all the time, and when in normal driving are you going to need a 100hp boost? Just for onramps and overtakes? You don't need that much battery storage for those jobs, Lamborghini knew that when they developed the Sian and gave it a capacitor so the hybrid shit took up much less weight and was better suited to torque-fill and random WOT moments.

so your pitch is a very shitty mild-hybrid that only runs for 30 seconds and then switches off back to regular mode?

You're playing shit games.

Kawasaki make this and it's shit.

this
a capacitor is way better for overtakes and post-corner acceleration. the only place for a battery is mpg and drag racing

yup, exactly, a small battery that gives a short boost when you need, 90% of time you forget it exists, and extra 50 pound battery shouldn't be a problem

that's not how batteries work retard

Real life is not Burnout Paradise. You're adding a couple hundred pounds in motor and batteries that do nothing but weight the car down when not in use.

vast majority of hybrid SUVs/CUVs use the hybrid system for boost.
Anonymous No.28588488 [Report] >>28588506 >>28589796
Batteries are heavy. Car gets lighter as fuel is spent. What makes more sense is a hybrid that can have a "boost" using chemical fuels, but its still a stupid idea
Anonymous No.28588506 [Report] >>28590560
>>28588488
Hybrid batteries are not heavy. A Hybrid is no where close to the footprint of a true EV. As >>28587869 already mentioned Formula 1 already has hybrid cars that boost.

Didn't the corvette e ray do this?
rwd v8 plus the front wheels had small but powerful battery electric motors that recharged while driving

How about I enjoy superior power to mass at all times by just not having your Gaylord boost button.

Every car has a boost button retard you just push the pedal more.
I drove a Mk 4 Golf for a while that actually had an extra inch or so of travel after you put your foot to the floor that would drop you down to the lowest available gear and let the car rev out harder.

so you want all the weight but only temp power boost? whats the point? you are better off swapping in an actual performance engine. miatafags just cant stop being faggots.
Anonymous No.28589445 [Report]
>>28587848 (OP)
Electronic power buttons have no place outside of arcade racers. Just give the go pedal an extra hump at the end of travel for extra power if you really want that feature, the driver can learn to control his foot

>capacitor
OK, not so bad. But couldn't it have been a nitrous tank instead? Why have a gorillion pounds of motors and capacitors instead of a sub 20lb nitrous setup?

you are a group of pussies

a 2004 honda hybrid has 45lbs electric motor generating 13hp + 40 lbs battery

with modern motors and batteries you can easily get more power for less weight

biggest issue is overheating but if we create a cool-down then we solve that problem
Anonymous No.28590159 [Report]
>>28589796
If that added 85 pounds of motor & battery is increasing the power of the car all the time that's fine. If it's tied to having to push a "boost" button that's only available for use sporadically it's shit because it's increasing the weight of the vehicle while providing no additional power most of the time.

You've just accidentally a whole Toyota Prius
The only difference is there's no button, it works like that all the time.

boost buttons are for retards. Just make more power and go full throttle.

the problem is energy storage, if you use a lithium battery its discharge rate may 20x its charge rate.
.eg 30 seconds @ full discharge would require 10 minutes of charging
an solution to this is to use super-capacitors to soak up in initial charge, then trickle charge a small lithium battery. (capacitors self discharge anyway)
using the capacitors to smooth out the spikes would allow the battery time to cool down.
>>28587869
yes that be the KERS (kinetic energy recovery system)
the funnyest one is the flywheel type, idk how they deal with gyroscopic precession.
side note, iirc Mercedes had an road car with a pneumatic motor system on the rear axle, the the compressed air tank being farely light weight.

I made a e92 one in beamng it's sick no turbo lag AWD

Might actually do it to my project car once I figure out how to make hub motors for a falcon
