Look at the design of these two hatchbacks. Which one would YOU rather drive? Aren't you thankful for modern crash safety standards, anon? Imagine the horrible unsafe car designs we would have today without them.

Structural safety is a good thing. I just don't how modern cars beep all the time.

the bottom one easily. whip up a full cage if you're worried about chassis rigidity.

This is unironically a much better comparison than that old rotted out x-frame burger sedan vs a new one.

not really, a lot of people talk about how older burger sedans are "tanks" that would survive any crash.
Anonymous No.28589147 [Report]
>>28589145
The x-frame in that video was specifically cherry picked because it was weak. At the same time, no, they wouldn't survive "any crash", they'd just shrug off fender benders more easily.

Ok but the top one doesn't have to look like an egg to be safe. That's just for BS emissions reasons.

It's a combination. Even the largest passenger vehicles look bloated compared to pre-2000s models.

Not the guy youre responding to, I agree that something like cages is obviously not going to work for normies, but 30 year old volvos are perfectly safe and you should be able to choose whether you have a sexy car or die in a crash.

The cool looking one on the bottom. Cars should be legally mandated to be less safe. We need more people dying in car crashes, and muh safety is a bandaid on the fact that we tolerate shitty driving and that our countries are filled with third world vermin.

An NA Miata with a full cage, arguably requiring a helmet to be worn at all times to prevent a TBI in the event of even a minor crash?

I lost my miata when someone in an SUV rear ended me going ~40mph. I didn't get a bruise.
Most people don't get in accidents that would kill them in their whole lives. You don't *need* a Suburban to drive yourself to a desk job.

Safety faggots should be woodchippered. It's my choice if I want to drive a coddlemachine with 37 airbags or a rotten deathtrap that wouldn't survive hitting a corgi - not yours.

I would argue not having a rollbar is going to make your miata much more likely to kill you, not to mention it feels like a limp fucking noodle.
bar + hardtop is almost a necessity to daily a miat if you ever take it on the highway.

But preventing crashes is now much harder because visibility is awful. I would rather everyone drive "less safe" cars that they can see out of

>I would rather everyone drive "less safe" cars that they can see out of
Is visibility really the problem?
In almost all crashes around here, the crash was caused by the driver being either:
>drunk as fuck
>busy fiddling with a phone
>suicidal
>a pensioner who can't see shit or react to anything in under 5-10 seconds (at least these usually drive very slow)
>a teenager with no self-control (these drive very fast)

None of these can operate a car safely, good visibility or not.

While I appreciate modern safety standards, I lament the fact that visibility was never included in safety metrics.
Now short women sit in tanks and see the world through a slit just above eyebrow level, and this is supposed to be normal and safe.

Yes this is a big thing. People can't see SHIT in traffic anymore. In my old car it felt like I had perfect 360 visibility. Now it feels like I have glaucoma when I drive. Just checking the blind spot properly is exhausting. NACP is retarded.
