I've been hearing things about how US Toyota buyers get milked but that's pretty fucking bad.
That assembly, or some type-certified clone, costs 400-500 € new here. A salvaged but supposedly functioning original part's around 250 € (both including 25% VAT).

reminder that sealed beams were shit because all the power for them ran up the wiring harness, through the firewall, into the dash, through the headlight switch, back out the dash, through the firewall, then down to the headlights
every car using sealed beams that has a headlight relay harness sees a significant boost in light output

oops. by sealed beams i mean the semi sealed h4 conversion housings
Anonymous No.28590036 >>28590048

Yes, but not entirely. If you put the same bulb in a reflector and in a projector headlight the output will be higher in the projector because it simply wastes less light. Also the beam pattern is usually better with decent cutoff.
Sealed beams are reflectors originally, modern sealed beam replacements usually are too, because they are too shallow to fit a proper projector, especially the smaller ones. Look at >>28589980, it uses two tiny round lenses because there's not enough backspace to fit a single bigger one.

I put four of these types of things on my Crown Victoria, they are still glass, I put some nice H4 bulbs in them, and I got a wiring harness to make it so that all four low beams come on at once and then all four high beams come on at once, so the headlights went from being horrendous to being fantastic.
My old Chevy van takes the exact same four sealed beams and I'm so very tempted to do the same upgrade to it as well but I don't have the money...

Lexus drivers can get FUCKED. I can make an exception for the V8 LX/GX drivers because they take good care of their stuff but every RX I have seen has body damage and/or a light out, driven by a minority.
Anonymous No.28590077
>>28590071
I also added tiny LED off-roading lights in the spots where the car would have originally had cornering lamps, I hooked those into the original wires for the high beams, so I also have a way to see around corners at night with the front of the car being so long. Not really a problem in the van, since you're basically sitting right on top of the headlights.

nice. mine has quad headlights but one pair is H4 lo/hi beam, the other is just h1 hi beam only. i bought a relay harness because at the time i was too lazy to make my own, but looking at some of the terminal crimps...it's honestly pretty shoddy work. you can see 2-3 strands in some of them straight up not crimped at all, the workmanship is quite poor.

That's how mine was before, that's how the van is too, one set of lights is low and high and the other set of lights only came on for high, but now I have quadruple low and quadruple high (at least on the car).
>>28590087
I'm pretty sure I have them sufficiently aimed, and I specifically wired the side lights to the high beams so I wouldn't be flashing people with them as I pass them. That was the disadvantage of using off-road LEDs rather than Factory cornering lamps, there's not really any cut off, so if I had my high beams on and you drove past me they would shine at you from the side.
That actually reminds me of the truck I once passed on the highway who had the brightest LEDs known to man mounted in his license plate housings, which meant that as I passed him they were shining directly into my eyes, lol
>>28590381
I also (regretfully) have a modern cuckover with LED projectors and whenever those burn out I'm just going to put the halogen housings from a lower trim model in them because I actually hate the LED headlights, the "high beams" are achieved by just moving some little door out of the way of the headlight, you can hear it clunking if you turn them on and off with the window down, and when the high beams are on all they really do is shine higher directly forward, which is only any help on a completely straight road, whereas with my car and it's high beams I can see a wide expanse ahead of me.
They also have a extremely sharp cut off between no light and full brightness, and on every little incline I can just watch that line of light pass up and down over whatever poor unlucky vehicle happens to be in front of me, no wonder I absolutely hate having modern vehicles behind me.

I got that and I can even agree (have reflectors with 9005/9006 in my truck that cost $100, and I'm fine with them), but
>projector H4 > reflector H4
