>Why can't we go back to old style trucks?
Just buy a good old truck and learn to wrench. One cannot be considered a vehicle enthusiast while being a wrenchlet. Buying new trucks is idiotic unless you're already debt-free, hold the deed to your home and the acreage it's on, and maxed out your retirement investments such that you could quit working today with little consequence.

Still a poor financial choice vs. putting that money towards land and home. No wonder this country is in debt up to its eyeballs. If you want greater load capacity and a simple vehicle go up in weight class. Not hard which is why many toy haulers are done that way.

Why do you not have the vehicles you list?

SUVs are the successors to station wagons which in the proverbial day also used truck drivetrains like the 460/C6 in my wrecker which I slew a useless Lincoln to harvest.
You are perfectly free to buy a classic wagon then daily that.
