I don't get it: if the engine is out in front, why the grill and the louvers behind it? What's in there that needs cooling? Your lunchbox?

Hmmm. Not sure.

The T24 is effectively a 4 wheeled version of the Pembleton V-Sport 3 wheeler. I believe both cars are even front-wheel drive.

If the engine is in fact liquid cooled, like it is on later Morgan 3 wheelers, then the radiator may be mounted behind the engine. It has been done before (see pic as an example).

Those are obviously air cooled engines.
If memory serves, Morgan and Pembleton used some sort of tuned harley engines called S&S or something lkike that.
Also Pembleton at one point used Moto Guzzi engines, but switched to harley ones too for some reason.

As I understand, the furles around the exterior of the engines, that are characteristic of air-cooled engines, may be more for aesthetic effect than actual cooling.

Austin-Morris and Rover were both folded into British Leyland at the time this concept was released; and whilst Austin and Morris wanted to pursue the Marina, Allegro, and Princess (arguably in the case of the latter also somewhat influenced by pic), Rover perhaps recognised more the promise of the concept.

Incidentally, when you compare pic, released in 1967, to many 70s Citroens like the SM, you may also begin to see some similarities...

Yh. Rover built an entirely new wing to their factory in Solihull for the expected sales of the SD1, hiring many less experienced workers for the production line. Then, shortly after commencing production; influenced by the more experienced workers transferred over by BL into the new facilities in order to help train the pups; everyone went on strike. By the time all the production problems had been sorted out, interest in the SD1 had waned, and orders had been cancelled.

The SD1 is typical BL. A great idea executed poorly by bad management and bolshevist staff.

Strikes, infighting, economy issues, politics, just an overall melting pot for failure. Even if the cars were built well, I don't think it would have stopped the inevitable thanks to all the bureaucracy. Add to the fact that 90% of all the British brands got lumped under one umbrella, so when the ship did eventually sink, they all kinda sank together. Only the brands that retained some margin of quality got rescued or escaped, the rest were just quietly forgotten about and reduced to nothing but a name.

Yes. I've been in the Range Rover plant at Solihull for work and it's still just big sheds built in the 70s, they're only just 'modernising' it now. Someone coming over from Affalterbach or Wolfsburg would be horrified.
The R&D end at Gaydon is very high tech but the assembly and manufacture is far behind the Germans and Chinese.

Management decisions at JLR are fucking baffling as well.
They launched the XE and Mk2 XF in 2015/16. They spent fucking loads on a bonded aluminium chassis with double wishbones at the front and a very clever multilink at the back which gives the XE a magic carpet ride quality and better handling than the 3 Series, but then they went to the pub and did nothing. The only series production sports model was the XE S, with a 340 and later 380hp supercharged V6. Fucking brilliant car easily competitive with the 340i, C43 AMG and Audi S4. Problem was that because the engine is very old school (and IMO better for it) it had massive CO2 emissions compared to the Germans, so fleet buyers weren't interested as company car tax would have been crippling. A plugin hybrid like the 330e would have boosted sales massively, but it never came.
They also never made a proper M3 competitor even though as the Project 8 proved the chassis could definitely handle it. A RWD V8 XE with 450/500hp would have been the best sports saloon of its generation.
The story of modern Jag is missed opportunity after missed opportunity.

Trouble with Jaguar is they've been propped up by Land Rover profits for years - we used to joke when I was there "Jaguar - sponsored by LandRover". They kept the "halo" Project 7 and Project 8 too quiet, didn't have the money to develop the variants you mention, or the confidence that the buyersa would come if they did, as all the market research said Jag was an old man's car and an old man's brand, not that of a thrusting young executive like BMW, or even Audi.

Could the models you describe have changed that? Maybe. But that would have been a potentially expensive call for Tata, which relies on JLR for the bulk of its automotive revenue.

Let's face it, with LandRover's reliability, if the fashion for luxury SUVs hadn't happened, LandRover would have sunk too.

The thing is when you sit in an XE, it's obviously not designed as an old man car. It's low, the pillars and sills are big and make it a bit awkward to get out, everything sort of hems you in and the seats aren't very good for the hip replacement brigade. The only part that really would have cost them was a PHEV powertrain for the 2.0 ingenium, but I think company car buyers would have loved it because the XE is a much comfier, quieter motorway cruiser than the F30 3 Series if you aren't old.
The running gear that made it into the RWD P450 F Type would have easily fitted in with minimal outlay and given JLR a genuine competitor to the M3. I believe the problems with fitting the V8 into the Project 8 came from the AWD system which was why it came only as a left hooker.

The T4 was a prototype of the Rover P6, attempting to conceive a car with a comparable gas-turbine engine to the pic race car. Ultimately, Rover concluded that fitting such an engine to a production car would multiply the cost of the car to the customer by 6x, thereby making such a car nonviable.

I don't know where you live, but certainly within the UK you can still sometimes see them. They definitely have a dedicated community.

It's ironic that arguably one of Rover's greatest cars was pretty much the last car they'd ever actually develop themselves before bankruptcy.

Later examples like pic though are known for having been victim to some of Rover's last ditch cost saving measures, with real wood replaced by veneer on plastic, and ornamentation removed. Such cheapening of the car though couldn't have inspired customer confidence or sales though.

God I hate you kikes. Renault has been literally state-owned for decades, and yet it's still doing very well. It's like nothing is worth existing if it doesn't make profit for your (((kind))).

Did you know one of the reasons Riley went bust before the war is because they set up a sub-brand called Autovia (pic), designed to compete against Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Needless to say it didn't go well, leading to Riley's purchase by Morris.

One brother, Percey Riley, split from the company; recognising the ruinous path it was on. Today that resultant company survives in PRM-Newage https://www.prm-newage.com/

Lol. Probably. I still believe a couple of Autovias do still survive in musea. They never sold in great quantities anyway. Victor Riley (one of the brothers) even set up a school in Coventry for chauffeurs. 1938 came round, and Morris had to step in to save it.

I have however spoken to the son of of one of the founders of the company: Victor Riley, the son also by the same name; and he claimed the family were kicking themselves for their inability to take advantage of the government contracts stemming from WWII, after selling to Morris.

I even have the same image you posted of that lovely MG, but for obvious reasons the site won't allow me go properly repost in kind.
