This. "car guys" and guys that race are vastly different. I work with a bunch of "car guys" and they basically just memorize trivial factoids and have idiotic brand loyalties and shit. Oh if it has a sunroof then it's an ex.. no one cares. Arguing over stock production cars and other inane shit. Basically the boomer version of car culture. They've never welded or pressed a bearing or been within 500 yards of a track, but boy let them tell you what a car guy they are.
Whereas racers are far more into mechanics, engineering, material science, fabrications, you know all the ACTUAL car guy shit. They don't name their cars or treat them with "love" they beat them like they owe money because that's what it's built for.
It's a very cringe dichotomy where one is clueless yet highly confident and the other is silent. Also elitism is a good thing. Elitism keeps out dipshits so the culture can remain as pure as possible. This goes for every literally every subculture.
