it's not illegal to daily driver a motorhome
Anonymous No.28596293 >>28596693
But it's a bit inconvenient unless your motorhome is a van conversion because it's bigger than the cars everything is designed around.

The frame bending in half is due to crash regs. Trucks have the issue of having the bed slam into the cab at high speed crashes and causing secondary crash injuries, so automakers addressed it by engineering a failure point so that the two are separated by forcing them to pivot.

It's a compromise primarily borne of using work trucks as commuter cars.

The company that they based the initial design off, Revcon, kept making them for several more years afterwards. However, I think there are still less Revcons around than GMCs.
They made some Revcons that were longer than any of the GMC models. Up to 34' I think.

The ultimate experience is to just git gud and have a vehicle that is in the right sweet spot to be drive-able anywhere. Somewhere around the 26' to 34' length. That's when you're really motorhomin' for real.

I don't even want a RV to sleep in or go camping. The appeal to me is being able to drive like 2-3 hours away to visit friends and have a little apartment they can come out to visit me inside where we play video games without me having to fuck around with their home set-up or drag shit in to set up on their kitchen table. Like a mobile living room I can park in the drive-way and have everything set-up ready to go the second I get there. Or they can meet me half-way and make the drive a lot shorter for me while also getting out of the house for them.

I do camp, however for me the appeal is equally split with the idea of it being an emergency backup home, for fleeing disaster or other unforeseen events.
My previous home was lost to a forest fire.

Lol. Its a valiant effort at not living on the streets but youre actually in the street. You tell people that you are staying flexible and not tied down because you can chase those opportunities, that never pan out. Too strapped for cash keeping your beast running and street legal to leave the local area that you become a neighborhood fixture in the end

Sorry, at no point is a truck cooler than a van. Trucks, real trucks, are utilitarian. They pick up cool points for care free bopping down the back roads, or up to no good having parties with the tailgate down. Not that pavement princess bullshit. Vans on the other hand are built to be cool, infinitely customizable to the owner's personality. They're at their best not moving at all. Nobody puts wall to wall carpet in a vehicle for practicality. It's creating an atmosphere. It's actually impossible to be upset driving a van. Take the vanpill and you'll never not have one again. Keep the truck; it's great for moving lumber or the deer you shot, but you'll wish you were driving your van.

these class of campers are increasing in popularity here, they will fit in most city parking lots, can be daily driven/carry a load from ikea and since we dont have any laws against camping in a parking lot you can park right outside a restaurant, eat and drink yourself stumbling drunk then sleep it off right there and drive off the next day.

True. But it's stupid.
>depreciates to nearly worthless within 10 years of being new
>generally built like shit, prone to leaking and mold
>abysmal fuel economy
>difficult to work on due to the engine being buried, suspension being under a big heavy chassis

A camper trailer and a pickup is a far better option.

If they're old they're likely snowbirds and already have a house they live in during the summer. For $250k a class C or a small class A and a towed vehicle would make a fuck of a lot more sense. That much for a Sprinter or a Promaster with a nice interior seems a little ridiculous. Sure it's easy to live with and can sort of go off road but that's some pretty bad value.

im traveling tradie, and at my current airbnb i started talking to some late 60 ish year old dude with a camper van, i thought it was another guest. turns out he was the previous owner of the place, he just handed it down to his son and bought a camper because he too was traveling tradie and had no need for a full time home now that he kicked out his wife and his kids was grown up. as long as his son kept a room available for him he didnt care, most of his carreer he had lived on site anyway.
80k ford transit 4x4 camper and his job was restoration/historical stone masonry.
if he fell for the bigger is better meme he could never afford it, 80k is in reach for most. im gonna become him soon.

Based. Also, out of all the cars I've had. Vans have been the only cars that women come and talk to me about. And try to invite themselves onto a ride to go camping.
