You'll never get one. There are over 100k reservations so far and they've only made 70 this whole year. They have one tiny warehouse. They're not going to be able to fill the demand.

All that needs to happen is for Toyota to release their Hilux Champ which is basically this with a gas engine and it's over. It doesn't have adequate range or 4wd.

Why didn't they go further with the cost cutting?
Why include unnecessary luxury options on the base
Why not have a less powerful motor?
Why offer all this customization + an SUV model that only drives up cost and manufacturing time?
Why lift it?
Why give it such big wheels and tires?
Why bother with a full size spare?
Why not look at old cars that went for this like the Citroën 2cv and fiat 500? Give it a rag top. Skimp out on passenger mirror.

Literally who would buy this? Its like they thought manual windows was all they needed as a selling point in and of itself.

What a missed fucking opportunity to actually do some good in the world.
Its not like anyone's gonna tow with this. Might as well make it fwd too. Anything to cut cost. The only reason its a truck is to get around passenger car regulations.

Then when nobody buys this expensive junk they'll cry and say nobody wants cheap cars

I thought it was supposed to be a truck in the sense that a Subaru brat or other cruiser are trucks.
Also the retardation of modern economy cars having 18s doesn't matter as the point of this car initially was to sidestep a lot of the stupid shit the industry is doing.

It's a golf cart shaped like a truck. The open bed can be used for things. It can't tow worth a shit, I'm sorry but any 4 cylinder shitbox can tow more than that. A 4cyl 2.5 is typically rated at 2500lbs towing capacity. This cart has 1000lbs capacity. The range is also limited, so the motor is not powerful and it lacks battery capacity. They were trying to hit a price point though and they did that by making a limited use vehicle. Sounds like people want it to be an actual truck, but they don't want to pay the price for that. It would likely be over 30k with a powerful engine, AWD, and extended range.

That idea is called the Toyota Hilux Champ.

Yeah, yet instead of figuring out a way to build it here or bypass muh chicken tax, they're instead going to build a Maverick/Santa Fe "crossover truck" competitor in the form of a Corolla-based pickup that I'm sure is going to be just as useless in actual trugg duties as those two other cars are.

Retard take. The Maverick has fucking 4 doors and 5 seats. The bed is the same size between the two. You get a whole covered cargo area with the back seat and still have the bed space. Guess what you lose when you slap a second row of seats in the Slate? Also the Maverick is ICE regardless of having a battery pack or not. No limited range. The Maverick can tow and haul more. Maverick comes with a slew of options standard that the Slate will not. By the time you option a Slate to equal a base Maverick you’re spending more money.

Slate is useless vaporware, and only the profoundly retarded will buy that piece of shit. Sorry bout it.

It's definitely true in Europe where the streets are actually narrow and the parking spaces are the size of fiats. I live outside Manhattan and I drive my maverick in and I'd say I wish it were shorter to fit in a smaller parking space maybe once every 15 trips. I think if I had to drive to Manhattan every day I'd want a shorter car but I actually ride my motorcycles most days so it's not annoying enough to feel inconvenient
Anonymous No.28602260 >>28602266

Its primary goal is cost cutting to make it an affordable car. So they didn't stuff it with as much battery cells as would fit, probably not high output batteries, and not a high output motor. This is an electric kei truck and that will make more sense if you see how small they are in person. Don't expect bloatlord American truck capability out of it, expect kei truck capability. Probably less since it's an EV version.

>>28602235
It's not as controversial when you realize it's a kei truck. Just way overpriced for a scaler up golf cart, that's the controversy I guess. Hipsters will love it because they're already paying used Corolla price to drive silly little kei trucks around. But if the price on these doesn't come down after release, it's not going to do well.

Building materials are often too big for either box, but id prefer the box that its less too big for.
Also i am intriqued by the thought of putting a slide in truck camper on one. They both have around the same payload, which would be sufficient for what campers under 6' long generally weigh.
