You can run whatever engine you want in an unlimited class of drag racing. Why is it dominated by the pushrod engine?

and F1 cars hold the lap record around many circuits - does this mean a V6 hybrid is the ultimate circuit racing engine?
Of course not, that's just the rules of the racing category with the most money.

i was curious so i did some research. apparently it boils down to 'simpler is better', despite ohc offering potentially better results.
longer answer: there were some catastrophic failures in ohc engines so nhra mandated the ohv hemi because it blew up the least. my guess is, when you've got one chain close to the crank turning one cam, you can get a lot more force on it vs 2-4 chains/belts running 2-4 cams, and with 2-4 cams thats 2-4 more times likely to skip timing, interfere, and rapidly disassemble at a bad time

Engine choice is irrelevant in circuit racing. Handling performance on a track is 100% the chassis. Meanwhile you can stuff a pushrod engine in pretty much anything and it will perform very well.

>>28601145
Yeah DOHC engines are fragile pieces of shit. One thing they will never have is displacement and there truly is no replacement for displacement.

>>28601151
im not disagreeing with you, but displacement is in the block. has nothing to do with the head. and id imagine with no pushrods or cam in the way you can bore the block further

By the time you match the heads to the displacement you're left with a massive engine. This is why a 5L coyote is physically bigger than a 7L LS. A 7L DOHC ending would be the same size as a 10+L pushrod big block.

Stop fixating on top fuel. Go look at what people are running for drag week. There are no regulations. You just need to be as fast and reliable as possible and most people aren't on multi million dollar budgets. Most people are using pushrod engines. There's a reason for that.

>>28601172

why the fuck does each piston have dishes cut out for 4 valves when it only has 2?
is that so Cleavontravious cant install it incorrectly or is it because it's cheaper to manufacture that way? With GM it really could be either/both.

The pistons have an offset wrist pin which helps reduce piston slap, the dot needs to face towards the front of the engine. Having 4 valve reliefs means they can use the same offset piston on both banks of the engine, instead of having special left bank and right bank pistons.

Only fucker in this entire thread that knows anything.

The LS7 is perhaps one of the best V8s ever made. It has flaws but frankly theyre so well documented that there are a million aftermarket solutions to fix each one, primarily valve drop and the harmonic balancer. Outside of these issues theyre incredibly reliable, like any chevy small block.

A C6Z07 has a 7 liter SMALL BLOCK and still makes 30mpg on the highway. Ford fags are unable to comprehend this, they are too busy licking the feet of a company that doesnt care to make good enthusiast cars. Europoors and impoorts are only good at I6s, and thats fine.

Power to weight is irrelevant when the engines powerband is basically unusable and the engines lifespan is measured in minutes. At that point you might as well start looking at top fuel engines which make as much power as that 4L with one cylinder.

The thor v2 is overbuilt for 2k and runs reliably, mandatory rebuilds are only for if you run it at 3k in qualifying trim. Not for no reason world record time attack cars use it. It's a pretty interesting topic and unlike many engine builders the proprietors like to talk about it, several good videos on the subject.

Okay lets use our big boy words. Explain why 2 identical chassis' with different engines that both weigh the same and have the same power and torque bands will perform differently. This should be good. inb4 I've tested both in my video games.

>>28604499
