>Why are they going up in price?
Because "buy an old Goyota, they're reliable" is the only thing NPCs know about cars, hence the tax. You can literally get a newer, N52-powered BMW (I6, no direct injection, no turbo) with lower mileage for less than that, and I'd handshake that it'll be equally if not more reliable and actually not soul-crushing to drive or maintain (even maintenance parts like brakes are equal in price at this point).
Non-car folk won't even dig that deep at all, will just dismiss that with "well I heard they're expensive to maintain" then go spend nearly $10k on a 15 year old shitbox (of which, in 2010, a 1995 Corolla would've been a $2000 car by comparison, maybe even less)

With similar mileage? They're all $7-10k where I'm at with 80-100k miles, so OP's post for once doesn't appear to be cherry-picked. It's just the Yota tax.
