Because the gasoline turbo trucks got their reputation of blowing up all the time with that Typhoon (and Syclone) in your bottom pic. It's only recently that manufacturers put enough processing power in vehicles to get gasoline turbo engines to live decently long lives and even then Ford fucked it up so people still don't trust gasoline turbo vehicles. Diesel? Fuck yeah! Gasoline? Nah, N/A all the way there.

The Syclone and Typhoon were niche performance options. The Hurricane I6 replaces the V8 entirely. Would you trust a brand new twin turbo straight 6 from Chrysler?
