I'll show *you* something that exists.

Yes and they're actually surprisingly based, the straight six version comes with all the sporty parts as stock and then some extra like a quicker steering rack and a shorter final drive while also being the lightest weight E46 this side of the CSL. They're the best driving non-M E46 if you can get over the weird insectoid eyes, though the Compact only parts can get heinously expensive (oh my fucking god the door cards).

t. had one

This. Better bang for the buck than any other 6cyl E46 AND you get sports suspension, sports seats on all of them. The sporty bits are should come with every 318ti and 325ti, the lower models only get quicker steering and slightly tighter suspension.
Unlike the E36 compact it's using the whole sedan platform though, so the weight difference isn't that significant
t. had a 318ti for a while, perfect shitbox

500 million to chop off the fucking trunk?

This is not an E36

The E36/5 is actually the front of an E36 married to the rear of an E30 because they couldn't get the multilink setup compact enough to allow reasonable cargo space, and the E46/5 somehow manages to share absolutely none of its sheetmetal with its larger brethren and has a modified rear subframe to boot (although this time it's big boy multilink and not the E30's trailing arm).

Yep. The E36 and E46 compacts did exist. I hate how the E46 looks but the E36 looks pretty nice to me. In fact the Z3 was mostly based on the E36 compact. These models were later replaced by the BMW 1 series.

Unfortunately, yes, they were the cheapest BMW you could buy. Luckily you can fit a regular E46 front to un-ugly them, but still, very odd looking things, and usually worth nothing.

No. None of the seams and lines fit. You have to graft the fornt and rear halfs of each type of fender and hood togetther to achieve >>28611200
