Absolutely fucking awful
Literal Chinese-design-tier. 0 design cues linking it to the current Renault cars (maybe the rear light are Renault-y somehow), incoherent overdesigned overaggressive front, LOGO™ plastered all over the (fake) (plastic) grille, plastic wheel arches

You could probably reduce the grille area to 1/3 and the car would work just as good in white countries.
Maybe even better during the colder parts of the year. People here sometimes block those retarded grilles to make the car warm up faster.

100% agree.
The last Clio was the bland, middle of the road option you can rebadge if necessary, and it was very succesful because of that. Why did they decide to make it look like a chinese mashup of the current Peugeot and Alfa Romeo models?

what is baffling is that the current facelifted renault clio is a pretty good looking car in the genre
Anonymous No.28612021 >>28612053 >>28612067
While Renaults some new designs are pretty spiffy, the model line is a mess.

In the small car category you have
> Clio
> Captur
> Renault 5
> Renault 4
> Symbioz
> Nu-Twingo (Coming when?)

In the midsize category you have
> Arkana
> Megane
> Scenic
> Rafale
> Austral
> Espace

Just too many cars too similar in size. Same thing with Peugeot-Citroen having six small cars and 11 midsizes (308, 3008, 408, 508, 5008, C4, C5X, C5, C5 Aircross, DS4, DS7). Albeit midsize bloat is worst at VAG.

Only an issue in nu-cars because manufacturers are cheaping out on paint and galvanization. An Audi 80 or 100 won't rust to this very day if it wasn't crashed and cheaply welded and painted by some polack in a shed.

Cost cutting is a much bigger factor than regulations, since around the beginning of chink flu, nu-cars have much thinner paint coats to the point where VWs from circa 2019 are rusting under the paint chips on the hood. Some nu-cars are not even painted under the body panels from the factory.

The B3/B4, C3/C4 and D1 platform Audis hardly ever rust specifically because they used an ultra-thick galvanized coating, B5 A4s and up were still galvanized but aren't as durable because that's when the enviro-regs came into effect

They do rust, but only the front fenders due to foam between the fender and lining getting soaked and never drying out, and also at the bottom of the doors, but only on the later models, but even that can mitigated by removing them and cleaning all the junk inside.

Overall, these cars are the most rust-proof AND solid german cars from the 80's/90's you can buy and sometimes for very little money when you find a good deal.

It's more than that, the overwhelming majority of new car buyers won't buy an used car, and will settle for anything as long as it's brand new, thus manufacturers can simply just do whatever makes them the most money (hatchbacks with plastic cladding to be rebranded as "SUVs/Crossovers) because they know everyone will just eat it up

If there's one car that has a worse reputation for reliability than French crap, it's MG.
The latest one currently has the Euro NCAP scratching their heads trying to figure out what to do after the MG 3 failed the collision test in a way never seen since Euro NCAP was founded in 1997 (the driver's seat came off its mountings in the frontal collision test and crushed the dummy's legs).

Anonymous No.28617957

Well, MG's very much a value brand and part of SAIC, which is directly owned and run by the Chinese state. They're pretty cheaply made and make basically no profit in China. The EU's slapped a 38% tariff on SAIC and MG for government-subsidized dumping, but it hasn't quite stopped them yet.
BYD's largely a private company, as far as that's possible in China, and makes relatively premium products. Maybe they put just a bit more effort into their cars.

The current Clio's 1.6 L "E-Tech Full Hybrid 145 " powertrain is supposedly pretty decent, though I don't think it's quite on the level of Toyota's hybrid tech in refinement.
I've seen more than one review mention that sometimes the hybrid gearbox just doesn't react fast enough, leaving the car without acceleration or the engine screaming at high RPMs.
