Is the difference between Porsche and BMW that much to justify the insane prices that Porsche cars usually sell for?

Porsche does still use a lot more hand stitching and fitting than BMW, and they're still more exclusive. BMW is just another mass produced car marque like GMC or KIA at this point.

The prices aren't just a reflection of the work and material costs but also the "prestige". Driving any Porsche is seen as a status symbol by the majority of people, but the same can't be said for BMW. Maybe 30 years ago BMW was considered "elite" in North America but now they're just bargain bin trash heaps after 100,000 miles and any basketballer can finance one from Mega Motors. The same is only marginally true for some of the older Porsche SUVs, but not 911s.

Very different cars too, obviously. BMW M cars have fallen into a sort of cringe realm where it's mostly insecure Persians and Albanian rapists who drive them.

Imagine believing this lmao. The M cars and high end models have just as much attention to detail as any porsche (adequate for mass production). you're delusional af, redditor. Post lap times.

The biggest difference is that ANY porsche can be custom ordered and built to your exact specifications. You want purple plaid fabric seat centers on dark brown leather interior? You want lizard green exterior color with bright red seatbelts? You want zero other options except for carbon ceramic brakes? Porsche will let you order and build a true one-off vehicle. Maybe you dont give a shit about this, maybe you cant afford it and frankly most people buy off the lot inventory anyway but there's a lot of people for whom the money to buy a car is like your grubhub lunch money. Why does this surprise anyone?

If I had a lot of disposable income, I just might. I'd want to keep that thing pristine and I already know it'd be expensive to keep it like that.

They are pretty coveted but every so often they come up for sale. The super gucci ones are like $200k but I've seen some of the V12s going for $70-90k, most need a bit of a refresh on the paint or interior but otherwise they're solid.

Porsche is a brand based on sports and performance cars that also produces high-end commuter cars.
BMW is a more expensive mass-market brand that produces performance versions of its commuter vehicles.
Neither are worth the money they charge, like all premium brands, they charge what they know people will pay. A lot of their investment goes into maintaining an image people aspire to emulate by attaining their products.
They don't care about ((You)), the guy asking a dead forum what the difference between two brands he'll never be able to buy new is. They want to sell to the retard willing to
A. Buy a new car
B. Spend upwards of $100,000
C. Thinks that's perfectly okay
Ordered by increasing retardation btw

I own a BMW F26 X4 and Porsche 992.1 4GTS (pic related)
They are very different cars and serve different purposes for me. Build quality wise I have to give the edge to the BMW. Driving quality goes to Porsche.
I've put 125.000 miles on the bmw and although the car most definitely looks used it has kept up well and I've only ever had to do standard maintenance on it.

On the other hand there are a bunch of squeaks and noises on the interior of the porsche. I had a lot of wind noise coming from the sunroof which had to be adjusted and after 10.000 miles an injector failed which just got fixed after diagnosis and repair took 2 weeks (adding to the month i had to wait for the appointment at the dealer)
On the upside its a great sports car that is also comfortable for long drives, weekend trips, looks understated and fits me at 6'5.

I'd recommend a good pre owned BMW to everyone. The Porsche, although I don't fully regret buying it, is not really worth the price and insane upkeep in my opinion.

Yeah but this thing is absolutely GORGEOUS. The best looking BMW ever sold and you'll never get anything close to this open, airy greenhouse ever again. Plus it's from a time when BMW knew how to capture the essence of style and turn it into metal.
If they built this exact same car today - it would still sell. probably even better than it did originally.

yeah unfortunately 992's have developed the reputation of not being particularly quiet on the inside (squeaks, rattles, etc.) and most owners seem to think they're a quality downgrade from the 991.2 on the inside at least. Assuming you bought new, you should really bitch at the selling dealer to fix that stuff though.

Reminder that a BMW 850 has more s0vl than some AMG monstrosity ever will, can't put a price on that.

Plus only arabs drive AMG now. The BMW 850 is the patrician WASP's choice.

They're not selling the same style of cars, so it's pretty stupid to compare them at all. Additionally, no, the difference isn't enough to justify the price difference between them, or plenty of other cars. You pay a lot for the badge and bragging rights with any "luxury car"

New BMW has a dead e-powered steering feel. Same technology used in Toyota. I don't feel special driving a BMW at this point. Plus, ugly.
Porsche fits and feels like an extension of your body. Plus, it just looks special.

But don't buy a Porsche. I need them cheap. God damn it.

It’s all relative.
To be clear, let’s posit that your statement is true.
If so, that sets the baseline and any comparison would clearly show bmw “prestige” would be far into the negative integers.
The difference is that the 911 uplifts the entire brand, regardless of how many Macans they sell to neighborhood moms. By comparison, there is no particular halo car in the bmw lineup and all the sundry and forgettable transport appliances that bmw shits out really drags the entire brand down.
The e31 was lust worthy, but whatever 8-series soap bar they’re schlepping now will never be special regardless of any performance improvements it might have.
Anonymous No.28615588 [Report] >>28615595
Base model 911's aren't fast and aren't luxurious unless you option them out to 200k. A lightly optioned new turbo S is over 350k now.

At that point either stick with BMW M cars for excellent value or go fully exotic lambo, ferrari, mclaren etc.
Anonymous No.28615595 [Report] >>28615600
>>28615588
350k?! What shitfuck currency are you using?
1- a turbo S is well optioned anyway but I added everything except PTS and exclusive manufacture interior baubles. (FAL, lowered, matrix lights, 2tone interior, titanium exhaust, burmeiser and prob some shit I’m forgetting) it came out at $287k
I’m not saying that’s great, or even what I would spend my own 287k, nor am I saying it’s worth that….. but it’s not “350k, lightly optioned”.

350k fully loaded is still crazy. And if you are buying a turbo S it better be fully loaded.

no, im not. Have fun getting your slow ass base model 911 for $200k after leather options.

They do hold their value though I give them that. Im tempted by a 2022 targa gts with under 1k miles for 180k
Anonymous No.28615613 [Report]
^ but at the same time its like fuck I don't want someone's ugly spec for almost 200k. If its my money i'd rather have two bmw's.
