It's more of a question of "what else are you going to buy in that price bracket that's a RWD manual".

>>28623444
I mean, you got quads, don't know about lots and lots - Mustang GT, Camaro (let's pretend it still exists new), CTR (doesn't count for most since it's not RWD). Elantra N in between, arguably.

If you hate pony cars, can't afford a Supra but also think Miatas are gay you get a GR/BRZ.

I still hate the first gens, haven't had any experience with the 2nd gens, would take a Miata over either.

When the first gens came out I remember reading a review from Japan that basically called it a "white belt car." That's not the insult that it may seem although it is a little back handed. The dyes used in traditional martial arts belts would fade over time, meaning that because nothing came after black-belt given enough time (experience) that belt would fade back to being white and the cycle would start over. Your journey is supposed to start and end with cars like these, not be spent with it.

Unfortunate that the times we live in means that anything small or RWD is made for enthusiasts when if it had come out in the 90s it would have been just another car. Its stupid that a fully loaded one now costs more than an LT1 and almost as much as a 1SS.

I bought a โ€˜24 GR86 new and donโ€™t regret it at all. Itโ€™s a really fun car that is really well balanced and easy to control in a slide. Consumables are also cheap so itโ€™s a great track car, as people say itโ€™s a great car to learn RWD in. If just want it as a daily and you donโ€™t have any great driving roads near you itโ€™s kinda meh. But if you can get it to a track semi-regularly itโ€™s def worth it

I never understood how it's a modern AE86.
The AE86 was basically a simple shitbox that happens to be RWD and fairly well balanced. It was fundamentally still a Corolla and therefore was a decent daily in addition to being fun.
The Toyobaru on the other hand is a purpose-built sports coupe with none of the practicality. The only thing it has in common with the AE86 is that it isn't very fast.
The AE86 was like a weeb version of the RWD rally Ford Escorts. Even the engines (BDA, 4AGE) are suspiciously similar, albeit not as similar as people claim

Yeah if you like a miata but want a bit more practicality (4 seats even if 2 are meme-tier) without sacrificing the "sports" they are flawless.

My only complaint is how much the price jumped with the second gen. I would have preferred that they kept the first generation warts and all and sold that to 20-30 year olds wanting to buy their first new sports car and left those with more demand and money move onto the GR Yaris

Its mostly an appearance package on the LT1. On the 1/2/3LT (2.0T/3.6) trims it gets the SS's 20" wheels and I think summer tires compared to the regular all seasons in addition to the cosmetic changes that make it look like an SS. I was a big vague in my post, but RS models regardless of trim get the SS's headlights. The image is low quality but the headlights and the grill are the giveaway that it's a plain LT1. The original video takes like 10 seconds to find, the driver stays on the throttle all the way until impact.

And to quickly explain the LT1 compared to the SS, it comes with 245 width all seasons, weaker brakes, less mechanical cooling, and no track mode. An SS can easily break traction and it comes stock with 245 front / 275 rear with summer only tires. Not that track mode does much on non-1LE models. Ironically enough, a well optioned LT1 like that one looks to be costs as much as a 1SS.

It really isn't that hard to tell trim or options, I find it amusing when people can't even tell the difference between a 5th and 6th gen.

LT1 is a V8. The trim is named after the 6.2 V8's RPO / name.
When properly specced the lower trim 6th gen Camaros weren't the consolation prize pony cars of the past were. Every spec was tested against other cars closest to it's class.
2.0T was designed to compete both on price and performance with Miatas and first gen BRZ.
The 3.6 was designed to go against the 370z.

The 2.0T is actually slightly faster than the 98-2000 LS1 Z28

Camaro 4cyl and 6cyl are ackthually pretty fun, and likely faster than most traffique. The 4cyl has amazing handling balance and is super fun to toss around on twisty roads. The 6cyl sound amazing at high RPM and howls like the Jag F-type v6 motor.

The latest 4cyl Mustangs are surprisingly fast. Faster off the line than a V8 because turbo low-end torque (it's got the Focus RS motor now, different than prior Ecoboosts).

These days non-V8 mussho' cahz are as close as you can get to a light tossable fun car from the AmeriKKKunts.
