I personally don't consider an engine indestructible if it consumes 5 qts of oil per 1k miles. If it doesn't get it's daily ration of oil it will likely die which is pretty not indestructible.

That's the catch, the engine doesn't even burn if at all, it's leaking out of the neglected seals because Honda owners can't be asked to fix anything.

How can it be great when it hasn't achieved anything? I'm not sure why it's on that list. It's performance was dogshit and there aren't any left on the roads. How is that "great"?

This, and saying it's up there in the realm of 20th century engines doesn't mean much when that's the same century as the 130HP V8 Malaise motors, the competition isn't that crazy, meanwhile the 21st century went nuts, a VQ35 V6 engine would put out 260-298HP, a number greater than the supercharged 3800 Series II and prove to be as reliable as a Civic, it was ridiculous how many engines from various families would make good power (200HP 4 cylinder was common), get good economy, and run a trouble free 100K miles, way more if you actually maintain it.

Ah yes, the reliable VQ35, despite the excessive oil consumption, plastic timing chain guides/tensioners, and faulty coil packs. What a great engine.

People would rather have a shiny new car than maintain an old one if they can afford it. In Japan, they practically force their citizens to repeatedly buy new cars to stimulate the auto industry by taxing older cars off the road.

The cars were nice enough people wanted them to last over 100k and they did. Its unremarkable, just a footnote where domestics finally did not suck.

Yeah you are definitely right about Honda's C series V6 engines in the 90s, when they got old and high miles, and you let the engine idle for a few minutes, it would do a puff of blue smoke when you threw it in gear and took off, even if the engine had good compression, Honda later got the top ends of the motors like K series and J series pretty much perfect, and it got to the point where carboned up rings and extreme wear due to overly extended oil changes are the main cause of oil consumption on Jap engines these days.

Does it really matter if the frame is still steel?
Anonymous No.28658419 [Report]
>>28657668
Yes? Of course a frame can rust, but that's mostly an issue if it's designed by retards and there is a good reason to use steel for the frame in spite of the risk, because of its material properties offering longevity under repeated stresses from shit like towing. The body just needs to avoid rusting, so aluminum makes sense. Using aluminum for everything to save on manufacturing complexity or avoid rusting is retarded for a truck because then you end up with dumb shit like the Cybertruck having a failure mode where the back of the frame WILL eventually just snap off if you use it for towing regularly, no matter what.
